I think its an honest question, someone cant possibly believe every country celebrates their independence day...

It is day we choose to take a break from everyday life to appreciate how far the country has come and pay tribute to leaders how helped to get us there. There a lot of heroes tributes, cultural and food festivals, concerts etc scheduled on that day. There always a number activities going on. A lot of people just choose to relax at home and watch several documentaries of our history. While some choose to spend a day at the beach with family and friends.

It is extremely low keyed in comparison with the USA. On public holidays which it is, everywhere is closed and it is quiet during the day. Friends and family visit with each other and have eats and drinks. In the night there may be private parties or other paid get-togethers.Formerly there used to be floats and parades through the streets. Everyone used to look forward to it, but it doesn't happen any more. Some towns may put on a stage show for the community using local performers. Kingston might probably have the most activities geared toward independence celebrations, but definitely no fireworks like in the US. As a matter of fact, the Jamaicans overseas seem to have more interest and celebrations, than those in Jamaica!

Tony B this is for you:

"Why would Jamaica celebrate independence day. Its part of the British Comon wealth.... Not USA.. .
Question why do americans think every country celebrates July the 4th??"

There was nothing mentioned about July 4th. Jamaica does celebrate Independence Day. The country gained its independence from the UK on August 6, 1962 and continues to celebrate Independence Day on August 6th. Their Independence Day is a national holiday that is spent more with family and friends. I don't think every country celebrates July the 4th though you have to remember every country that uses the Julian or Gregorian calendar has a 4th of July (though it might not be the English "July".)

A lot of people go to Negril for Independence Day.. They have ATI party's all weekend.. www.atiweekend.com and www.appletonparty.com
Those are good sites to see what's going on.. Emancipation is August 1st, the weekend before and Independence August 6th.. Lots of Jamaicans on holiday. The shows go until really late. It's a lot of fun..

indepence celebration normally begins with the crowning of a festival queen followed by a series of events:
Agust 1:- August fair (ranny williams Cnte) Kingston
August 2 - Mello-go-round (national Arena) Kingston
August 6- Independence Day Parade/float/ dance(Kingston)
August 6-7 - denbigh agriculture show - (clarendon)
August 8 - Fishermans Regatt (St. Mary_Port Maria)
August 12 - Breadfruit Festival (St. Thomas)
Among this numerous dancehall sessions such as Passa Passa.
Most jamaicans kinda stray away from the true meaning of independence and celebrate differently.
indepence is widely recognised by the black society of jamaica since we are all form a mixed up background. The float parade kinda bring us all together.

jamaica celebrate by having dance musical and plays on our heritage. You can spend your independence at the National Stadium also at the Emancipation Park.

It's not as festive as it is here in America. Fireworks is not normally done as a main event. People there promotes parties and then they have cultural events telling of our forefathers and how they helped free our country but that's about it on a national level.
