How expensive is montego bay, jamaica compared to the united states?

I assume you are asking about how much it costs to buy stuff in Montego Bay. For tourists it is at least as expensive to buy items in Jamaica as it is in the US, and maybe more expensive. At least that was my experience. If you are planning on a trip to Jamaica then try to anticipate what you will need and then buy it in the US and bring it with you. You will also find that the variety of available products is much greater in the US.

boy_jam_arch
I would say Jamaica is less expensive, by buying some goods

NuncProTunc
I would think it would cost a great deal more to buy the United States.

JessBess
Just look at it dis way one US dollar is 65.00 Jamaican dollars. And a Soda cost 60.00 in jamaica. Its cheaper to me but then again it depends on what. Somethings you get are cheaper here in the states then in Jamaica

do you mean vacation wise or property wise?
a week in jamaica can be as cheap as 1,000 dollars per person for an all-inclusive (flight, hotel, transfers to hotel, food, drinks, tipping)

But property wise, you should google jamaica real estate. You can find some nice townhouses and other nice houses for about 200,000. Those same types of houses in Hawaii would cost at least a million dollars.

When we were there the rate was $40 jamaican to $1 US. You can exchange at the resort you stay at or we just used US dollars. Alot of the merchants' will post prices in US only and it's about the same as here in the US.

Like any country you visit, currency and value is different, just be smart when buying and you won't have to worry....

=)

well 1.oooo in Jamaican was 17.49 of my canadian money...............I paid 300.0o for a childs t -shirt...that is just a sample..I kept a note book handy on me with the conversions..very helpful......so 500.00 dollars would be about half of that and so on.........
