I just returned Sat. from St. Thomas (St John actually but...). We bought liquor on St. Thomas and the A.H. Rise store packaged our purchase to pass airline requirements for checked baggage. You cannot carry any liquid (whether purchased inside security or not) onto the plane. We got home with liquor in one piece btw.
Hope that helps! |

First of all, why would you actually want to buy duty free liquor? Ok so you save five or six dollars a bottle. Maybe double that. For which you become a mule carrying that heavy load all over the place. I would gladly give them back the twenty dollars I saved once and not have to work so hard in the airport. |

Glad to hear your liquor made it in one piece, ebth2306. I work at the airport in St. Thomas and everyone's telling me you can check your liquor in like regular baggage but you can't carry it on the plane anymore. Personally, I prefer to carry my liquor because that way I'm sure it'll get there in one piece. Sometimes the baggage handlers are too careful with those liquor boxes. I'm not sure how they're handling duty free liquor and goods bought inside the terminals though. |

I hope you can still get it, it cheap liquor makes up for the extra time it takes, I kind of doubt it though. |

You can buy beverages and liquor in the sterile area, but you must get rid of it before you can board the aircraft. What many people are doing now, especially at the San Fransico Airport where there's a lot of Napa valley wine, is to chug it all down before getting to the security point so that it's just not going to waste. My tip, don't buy expensive wines and stuff like that unless you can check it into your checked baggage. Also, be aware that you might be serched at the gate if you have a liquid item in your hand, even though that you bought it there. |
