Old San Juan has much to see. Besides El Morro Fort or San Cristobal Fort, you can visit the mayors office, Casa de Felisa Rincon whom was the first femal mayor of Old San Juan who built the Hirmam Bithorn Baseball Stadium and started the Head Start Program here. Also you can see the old churches. There is the San Juan Bautista Cathedral which is breathtaking and very historical. It is the oldest in use since the San Jose Church (the oldest yet is under renovation). There are various museums to visit by the Morro. The restaurants that are great to eat at are Manolin with typical foods from here and they cook great. I go with my husband there a lot and the food is fabulous. Barra China is another restaurant where you can eat open air in an indoor garden or inside in the dinningroom. Also there are a variety of restaurants that serve seafood, Mexican, Indo-latinAmerican and Chinese. There are 3 trollyes. 2 go to El Morro and upper part of Old San Juan (that's where Ponce De Leons home is) The one that I like is the open air trolley. You get a nice ride up to the capitol, see the shore and it takes your right to the main entrance of El Morro so you don't have to walk. The 3rd trolley goes up to Old San Juan but the center. Each trolley makes various stops along the way. Some taxi drivers will offer you a tour around Old San Juan and on was going to charge $30 per person and I told the tourist to take the trolley, it is free, you save money and it makes various stops along the way and you can ask the driver any questions you have. So the trolley it was. I say this because a vacation is to enjoy and have fun and not leave broke or over charged. In Old San Juan, there is the Milano Hotel, Sharaton of Old San Juan they have casino Bahia Club but to stay is more expensive because of the casino, there is the Convento Hotel which was hundreds of years ago a convent, then a casino, then shut down and remodeled into an expensive hotel but with a beatiful interior patio and all rooms have balconies to the patio.Just check out Puerto Rico on the web you can go to WEPA Puerto Rico web site also. |
