you dont say how many days you are staying , if you are stayin in a hotel or a private home or where are you eating , it makes a difference..as the other guys presume if you are a us citizen without relatives in Cuba you would not apply for a permit to travel directly to Cuba...so a third country like Mexico is your travel intinerary so your trip becomes more expensive just because of that. .. I went in May ( with the permit for being cuban) and spent a lot!!

The only way you can go legally is to go with a humanitarian group which is about the same thing as an escorted tour. It would include your air from Miami, transfers and all of your sightseeing, meals and a first class hotel. The cost is about $3200 - $3500 per person. I did it for about $2300 but that was 3-4 years ago. Well worth it and plan to go again.

Do not go there via Canada or Mexico because of the fine and I heard they monitor people coming in from Cuba and continuing on to the U.S., so you got to be careful. Although I went legally, they still didn't stamp our passport.

Let me know if you're interested in going on that humanitarian trip and I'll get the info for you. They just had one go this Oct. and the next will be in April. Whats hard about doing it illegally, is that they don't take U.S. credit cards there, you hotel is supposed to be paid in advance via a Canadian company, and you're supposedly allowed to take only $200 into Cuba.

A lot! you have to apply with our government and then to Cuba after you've cleared all the red tape(and payed all the fees) there's only one airline allowed to make flights from miami to cuba and they charge a bundle to fly that small distance.(however if you go to jamaica you can go over to the most eastern part of cuba for a day even as an american!

I guess it depends on where you live. All you would have to do is make it to Canada or Mexico. Then buy a flight to Cuba. You could not buy that 2 - stop ticket in America, you would have to do it in another country. It is illegal for Americans to travel to Cuba.

Not only would you generate scrutiny for having a Cuban stamp on your passport, but if discovered, you could face a $10,000 fine!! (unless you're Cuban and then the laws are applied differently and you can visit with certain restrictions)

You would have to fly to a third county like Mexico Canada and fly from there. So price the tickets on line from whereever you are.

Expect a lot of scrutiny the rest of your life in airport security, because going to Cuba is highly illegal for US citizens with only a few exceptions.

It depends on the route and the carrier.

For example Miami - Cancun - Havana is generally cheaper if you fly Mexicana all the way rather than, say, American Airlines to Cancun. (I was recentky quoted ~$500 vs $800)
