First thing first, where are you going to ?
Because if you buy something in the tourist area or you buy the same in a non tourist area, the price can be completely different.
Ok, for the moment a Dollar is 36 Dominican Pesos
Soda : 1/2 liter of Coca-cola in a local store 15 pesos
Pizza : depending the size up to 450 pesos
Liquor: A cuba-libre around 80 pesos in a bar, sometimes more...
Traveler treats : ? what do you call a traveler tread?
Lobster dinner : depending the size of the lobster and the place it can
vary from 350 pesos to .........for a mid size lobster
If you are in a cheaper area (even tourist area) you will pay less then if you go to a restaurant in Punta Cana/Bavaro. The different in prices are sometimes very high, so check out the price before droping yourself in a expensive adventure (the same for taxi or other services, always ask price first)
Tank top? : From the flee market or from a boutique? .........
Enjoy your stay here and don't forget to discover this beautiful country! |

If you are expecting to travel to the Dominican Republic and purchase things cheaply you are in for a awakening.
I can honestly answer that resorts in DR (especially all-inclusive) are the most reasonable in the tourist areas compared to the rest of the Caribbean. Food, dinners and excursions are not inexpensive in most Caribbean Islands. Most food is imported.
Some of the vendors/markets on the beach you can bargain with(cigars, cigarettes, coffee, t-shirts) and your dollar will go farther.
Please don't take this as a rude comment.
But in place of thinking bargain prices, think about what you can bring to the island that will help the people live better especially the children.(books, school supplies etc.)
Good Luck) |

Like L'antipodien already wrote you, it all depending where you will be during your stay with us, is it Puerto Plata or Punta Cana/Bavaro.
The differences of prices are enormous between the two!
I work in both areas, so I know what I'm talking about. |

There are about 35 pesos to a dollar now. Most things are about the same price as they are in the US.
Beer is typically 100 pesos in most bars and rum is cheap at about 500 for a good sized bottle.
Dinner is usually 300 to 500 pesos and spiny lobster is more like 1000.
T shirts will be 350 or more depending on how good you can haggle.
You should budget at least $30/day plus hotel. You can spend $100/day if you are doing tours and such.
ATMs are everywhere so you can always use your bank card for about a $5 fee. |

you can buy 3 french hens, 2 turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree
in all seriousness, bring money. at least $100.00 a day, $50.00 if you are el cheapo and $25.00 per day if you are frugal. if you stay at a resort then everything you just asked about is at the resort and is free because everything is included. you are going to a country where the eeconomy or employment is a service sector with agriculture in second place, therefore if you want to spend your dollar as if you are in an american $ tree store, you will have to go awayyyyyyyyyyy from all touristy towns. |

That's the other side of Haiti, isn't it?
I'd imagine things are cheap on the general part of the island, but there are resort prices in the resort area. And I have no idea whether the non-resort area is safe or not, I guess it depends who you are. |
