How much should I tip in Dominican Republic?

I'm going to an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in a week, and I am wondering if any one has any advice about tipping. I'm bringing lots of smaller USD bills - how much should I tip the Maid staff daily? Do I also tip the waiters and bartenders? and if so how much? Thank you!

I tip the maid on my second day $10, I then tip her another $10 during the second week. I also leave any left over shower gels, sun creams, perfumes, etc and all the change I have left from my holiday. I know it sounds cheap but we usually have at least $10 worth at the end of our 2 week stays.

The bar staff - not a lot to be fair. Perhaps $2 every 3 days. If that.

I do not tip at breakfast or dinner, I tip in the evenings because this is when I find waiters save you're tables, remember you're drinks etc. I usually tip around 100 pesos each night, just under $3.

I know this doesn't sound a lot, but I am not rich either. Its all I can usually afford after saving for my holiday, they seem happy with it though and I always recieve great service. I sometimes give my favourite people extra tips at the end of my holiday - $10 or so.

Just give them whatever you can, they will appreciate it. The people I have met there (I have been A LOT of times) genuinely can't do enough for you anyway so don't feel they won't be very nice to you or anything if you don't give them generous tips. They are very poor but be firm, you will end up having no money left if you leave you're heart to rule you're head.

Have a great time,

Hope I could help.

The maids make much less than $20/day from the hotel. More like $5, and they have to pay for bus fare. I tip the maids at least a dollar or two per day in a cheap hotel, and if I was in an AI, I'd tip more. The wait staff would depend on the service, since some All Inclusives are more like cafeterias than restaurants. Some AIs will also prohibit tipping in the food area. Bartenders, a buck or so per visit, depending on what you get. The booze in AIs is mostly draft local beers and rum and cokes. It's not like you can get Stoli's free all day. Still, if you are spending $150/day for a hotel room, you can prob spare $5-$10 on tips.

My husband is dominican and I go to DR in numerous occassions. Anything that you can give them, it will be appreciated. I agree with the answers before me, but sometimes the waiters work only for the tips and do not get any salary. Keep in mind that today the value of a dollar is DR$35.00 aprox.

Tip maids $3 per day. Waiters $1 at the buffet or $5 at the restaurant.
Barstaff $1 every drink or so.

Hey how are ya? I was just there in Novemeber. I had the same questions as well. Certainly tips will be acceppted and waiters and bartenders too. I generally tiped a bartender on my first drink around 50 pesos if i was going to have a few and being all included the drinks they apprieciate someone who tips. 50 pesos is about 1.50 us. Have you read about taking small gifts down for the maid staff as well. normal things like cheap toys for kids, coloring books, makeup, we brought that kinda stuff. things they can't afford or would be considered luxury . but yes money is always welcome and we left gifts and about 2 dollars american a day in room. she was always nice when we seen here and gave us extra water with out asking. I've heard they only make around $20us for a days work.

heyy,

i went dominican in october, i stayed in punta cana aswell i think, or bavaro? ocean blue resort.
the people there really do try to make you feel welcome so we tipped quite alot,

for the maid we tipped 1000 peso's for the whole two weeks
waiters we tipped about 200 peso's
barmen we only tipped about 100

it was really nice there, :)
xx
