How safe is Cartegena, Columbia?

It sounds as though you are going on a cruise. Although Cartagena prides itself on being safe and certainly when I was there I saw nothing to suggest otherwise, I noticed that on our city tour, the guide was watching us like a hawk and people were cleared away from around us. I would have loved to have gone wandering off on my own, but no such opportunity was given to look around independently, as might normally be the case with a city tour. I have read that crime is, in fact, on the increase in Cartagena.
I think that the cruise ships dock at Belize City, which is definitely a place to be careful. The rest of the country is very relaxed.
Ocho Rios is delightful. Don't miss Dunn River Falls, whatever you do!

IO hear it is dangerous, and you should see the movie "Romancing the Stone", since it shows the dangers of Cartegena, Columbia

Belize is very safe and a english speaking country.I have been there many times and never have had any problems.Lots of back-packers travel there,from all over the world.Riding the bus system is always an adventure in Belize.I have traveled alone all through Belize and met other single travelers and it was fun and safe.

Cartegena is alright. It has about the same crime rate as about Kingston Jamaica.

Many places you go as a visitor your not safe. I usually stay at a 5 star in Mexico ( barcelo ) and I am sure you have heard of the murders that occured there)
In any country you have to remember to not place yourself in an unsafe situation.Stay with your group don't wonder away from the tourist areas...most travellers tend to forget their not in their own country and don't realize that if something happens their own country does not have much they can do to protect you .
Even in the best tourist places I have heard of murders that have occured to tourist .
I find that when don't open my mouth (lol ) I get treated better and not ripped off as a tourist ...my sister and friends all speak spanish so when I go to Mexico as long as I don't talk they don't realize I am a visitor and I also don't get charged triple the taxi rates....but if you can't do that see if you can get a friend to go with you

COLOMBIA, not Columbia...

Anyway...Cartagena is as safe as anywhere in this world. I was there for 10 days, on my own, and nothing happened to me.

I was mugged at knife point in London, though, and my car get stolen in Madrid a few years ago.

DonÂ´t know about Jamaica, but apply the same rules.

Jamaica is safe, the people are nice and the place is nice it's just Kingston that's were all the gangs and drugs are, and I know that because I have just come back from there.As for Columbia, Belize and any islands or countries around that area I advise you do not visit them.They are the drug capitals of the world and it is really dangerous, even on a resort.
