How safe is it to take a taxi from the Dreams Resort to the Hard Rock Cafe.....???

We are going this June to Punta Cana and worried how safe the ride is from the hotel to the shopping plaza where Hard Rock is located.
Additional Details
i am not sure what the first person to answer this question is referring to. I believe there is nothing wrong with my question...especially lately how i am hearing that the Domincan is not safe these days from off the internet.

Dear, don't belive anything about the fact that the Dominican Republic is not safe. This country is much more secure than the US cities and even the european cities, so go and enjoy yourself.
Happy to help you

Crime is everywhere. Just take the same precautions you take in your own home town.

Don't carry your life in your pocketbook, don't flash money, don't wear expensive jewelry, watch how much you drink, don't walk in dark places late at night, don't try to buy drugs and most important be respectful of the locals. In other words, stay under the radar.

This is standard advice, traveling or at home.

You will be fine. Relax and have a wonderful time in Dominican Republic. I have been there many times and the people are very nice. It helps if you can speak some Spanish. They love that even if it's a few words.

Enjoy)

YAWN! ITS O.K APY BABY , YO ENTIENDO. 2+2=4 AND SPEAKING EVEN A LITTLE "GHETTO ESPANOL" GOES FARTHER THAN THE RIDE THOSE MAFIOSO TAXI DRIVERS WILL TAKE YOU FOR IF YUUS AINT CARFUL NINA . THE GOOD NEWS IS , AND THIS IS VERY TRUE . FOR THE AVERAGE TOURIST NOT LOOKING FOR TROUBLE, MOST LIKELY, YOUR BIGGEST SAFETY CONCERN ANYWHERE IN THIS COUNTRY IS GETTING SMOKED ON THE PRICE OF YOUR TAXI OR MOTOCONCHO . SINGLE OR WITH COMPANEROS, IF YOU DONT KNOW THE STREET OR THE STREET TALK, ASK SOMEONE WORKING AT YOUR RESORT TO WALK YOU TO THE CAB THAT THEYLL MORE THAN LIKELY HAVE RESERVED FOR YOU. THE BIG RESORTS USALLY ALWAYS HAVE THE LEGITAMATE CARS AND DRIVERS WORKING THERE AROUND THE CLOCK AND THE FARES TO ALMOST ANY WHERE ARE VISIBLY POSTED AND PRESET, BUT THIS DOESNT MEAN YOU CANT TRY AND CHOP EM DOWN. YES THEYRE EXPENSIVE BUT MUCH SAFER THAN THE TRUE PUBLIC TAXIS THAT WILL GET YOU THERE IN HALF THE TIME FOR HALF THE MONEY BUT MAYBE NOT IN ONE PIECE. TRUTH BE TOLD , YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TO THE D.R UNTIL YOU HAVE RIDDEN IN A GUAUA OR REAL PUBLIC TAXI. " DEFINITLY NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART OR THE LARGE OF BUTT." THAT SAID, THESE DUDES DONT SLEEP MUCH SO THERES A GOOD CHANCE OF GETTING THE SAME TAXI TO PICK YOU UP BY LETTING HIM AND THE RESORT KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WANT TO COME HOME. THE DOWN SIDE TO THAT IS THAT THESE DUDES DONT SLEEP MUCH, NOT TO MENTION THE LIMITS YOU COULD BE PUTTING ON THE NITE OF YOUR LIFE. OH WELL, SO MUCH FOR MYSTERY APY,. BETTER RUN AND CHECK THE WEATHER CHANNAL KITTEN. OH YEAH, ALL DRIVERS OF TAXIS MUST BE LICSENSED AND HAVE THIER IDS VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES . BUT, UNLIKE IN OTHER COUNTRIES, LIKE MEXICO, APART FROM THE VERY RARE BUT REAL OCCASIONS INVOLVING TOURISTS, OTHER THAN PRICE WARS OVER FARES WHICH ARE ACTUALLY CULTURAL AND FUN FOR ME , IVE NEVER HEARD OF OR EXPERIENCED ANY INCIDENTS INVOLVING TOURIST GETTING ROLLED BY TAXI DRIVERS OR ANY DOMINCAN FOR THAT MATTER, WHO DIDNT DESERVE IT.

You should be fine. Have Dreams call the cab and then have the same cab pick you up at the Hard Rock at a designated time. I visited the DR in October and left the hotel I was at a few times via taxi and did this. We had no problems. You may want to learn a little Spanish first, though because some of the taxi drivers do not speak English.
