Hurricane Ike and Cayo Coco?

Hey.

I'm going to Cayo Coco sept 14. This morning I looked on www.nhc.noaa.gov and realised that hurricane Ike will pass near/over Cayo Coco.

I know that on sept 14 hurricane Ike will be over, but do you think hotels/beaches will still be a lot affected? Dammages?

I was not impressed with the answer bumblebee gave.
I have many friends in Cuba including my fiance and hoping myself to be flying out on Saturday . The last thing on my mind is whether the facilities in the hotel resort are suitable to use. My main concern is of the safety of the Cubans.
However i have phoned my friends and the storm has not hit Cayo Coco as yet. But if it does then i for one hope i can still get there as i want to help out as much as i can. i will not be concerned about using a SWIMMING POOL.
If anyone who is only thinking of themselves in this then maybe you should stay at home, because i hope i do not meet you at the airport.

A lot depends on the exact course taht Ike takes. (Could still turn north and go to Florida, but most likely to run along Cuba.)

If it comes ashore it will lose power; if it stays over water, it could be a lot worse.

Ike now looks set to go over the whole of Cuba, which has already been swiped by other hurricanes. The problem is that they have arrived in such rapid succession as to leave little time to sort out the mess. Nobody can tell what damage Ike is going to do (he is approaching our island very fast as I answer your question), but he looks like a nasty one and we are all bracing ourselves for a major hurricane. Inevitably you are going to see some of the effects of Ike and the others and there could be a scouring of the beaches, but remember how very much the Cubans depend on tourism. They will do their best to make you comfortable. Buen viaje!

Just Talked to my friend in Moron on the phone he informs me that that Ike will be hitting there tommorow afternoon. \he also tells me they have been preparing for this storm, and so far everyone is okay in cayo and moron hopefully they will miss the brunt of this storm. \\i intend to call him in the afternoon to see if he is fine. Do not worry about the resorts they can be rebuilt its the people that are the concern you would know what I mean if you met them, i have lived in thier homes they have nothing but give you everything.

I agree with mc's analysis ... in fact we started a group on the facebook about the whole thing just because its gonna be a great week from September 13th to September 20th.

Ike missed Cayo Coco and Josephine does not seem to be heading in that direction at all. The weather forecast for the week of September 13th to September 20th is looking great !!!

Check this out ;

I must agree with TC its a waiting game as of now,and if you have ever met a Cuban your number one concern would be the people ,I have been to Cayo Coco 15 times and each time I go I learn a new lesson on humanity at it's best ,the happiest people in the world and yes they have nothing and will give you everything ,a lesson we should one day adapt to ,pools can be rebuilt people cannot be replaced ,however enjoy Cayo Coco it is a beautiful place to see ,and if the pool is no good ,try the beach and hug a Cuban

Victor
We are in hurricane season. Another might come very soon

Wings
You have to wait and see. After the hurricane passes, contact the hotel and ask them if they are still going to be open for guests. Also, ask them if all their facilites are in good order. You wouldn't want to go if their swimming pool was not usable. Going to the Caribbean is iffy this time of year.
