I'm going on a cruise, my first, and I have always had sea sickness problems. Any ideas? |
I am going to Honduras, Belize, Costa Maya Mexico, and the Cayman Islands. Any fun things to do there? |

Like others have suggested, bring along some Dramamine. Really, though, cruise ships are large and unless the seas are rough, it shouldn't be a problem. Actually, when it does rock, the motion's very slow and relaxing; it'll likely lull you to sleep at night.
As for fun things, do at least one of the ship's beach excursions. They often have party boats with rum punch and Caribbean music that you can go on; those are a fun way to get to some of the beaches. Some have open bars; you can just kick back in a hammock and slurp on a frozen rita.
In Grand Cayman, there's this outfit called Atlantis Deep Explorer; you can take a submarine for two down to 1000ft. It's pricy, but very, very cool. It's also limited, so book early if you do that.
Some places have helicopter tours; those are fun. The islands from the air are gorgeous.
Also, if you've never been snorkeling, that's a fun thing to try. They'll supply a mask, snorkel and flippers, and sometimes a float you can wear. You can get an underwater disposable camera and get some neat pictures.
Hope you have fun on your trip! :D |

There are lots of fun things to do there, it really depends on what you enjoy. I like to tour the island once I get there to see what I can find. You can also get some guidebooks to help you plan, or just look online.
As far as sea sickness. You will feel less movement on a large cruise ship, than on a little boat. The larger the boat, the smoother your ride will be. Just be sure to bring some dramamine and maybe even some sea bands. The medical ward will usually have some available as well. If you are really worried about it, book a lower category in the bottom of the ship with no port hole or window. This is where you will feel the least movement and not being able to see the water helps.
Most people that get sea sickness don't have any problems. It really is completely different than a regular boat. Just be sure to bring some medicine just in case, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Depending on when you are going, I'm assuming summer, the wathe shouldn't be too rocky, so you should be find. Just avoid stormy seasons like hurrican season and winter if you are worried.
Hope this helps! |

Modern cruise ships have stabilizers and do not rock bad but if you are sensitive to motion bring Dramamine and take it before you start to move so it doesn't get you. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what little motion there is. |

I went to those EXACT places, except Honduras, a couple of years ago. Im a type of person who is usually gets motion sickness, but on the cruise i was perfectly fine. I bought all this medicine just in case, but never needed to use it. When you go on a cruise...it doesnt even feel like you are on the water, its just as if you are somewhere else. So dont worry and just bring some medication in case. And if something serious does happen, there is usually a doctor on board. Additionally, there are many fun things to do, be sure to participate in different excursions like swimming with stingrays in Cayman Islands, Belize island tours, kayaking and biking in Costa Maya! Also on the actual cruise there is so much to do including swimming in the pool, karaokee night, formal nights, clubs, casinos and amazingly good restaurants. Have fun and enjoy yourself. Hope this helps. |

Dramamine works, but it also makes you sleepy. Some drug stores sell wrist bands that you wear over the pressure points on the inside of your wrists that prevent you from getting motion sickness - and you can enjoy the trip wide awake. These worked for my son and he always gets sick in planes, cars and boats. |

You can get pills or a patch from your Dr or pharmacy, or at a boat shop a wrist bracelet that also helps. But most cruise ships now have stabilizers so the ships don't rock much, if at all. If you get something to take with you, don't use it until you need it, because you may not need it at all. If you don't have time ro get something before hand, once on ship you can go to the pursers' desk or the medical office and the medical staff will give you pills or a patch. |

cruise ships barely rock at all and most people don't even feel it after the first day. have a couple of drinks when you first get on and you won't even notice the rocking |

See your doctor and get the "patch" . . . I went on a cruise and wore one and wasn't sick at all - although I did have a broken leg before I left! Have a great time :) |

As a pharmacist, I say get the patch. It's called TransDerm-Scop, and is only available with a prescription. |

You should not have a problem in a large cruise ship. However, if you really worry about it, the best solution is non-drowsing Dramamine available over the counter. It is called Dramamine II. It will allow you to enjoy all activities. Read the label on the dosage and when to take it. |

i had the same problem last year. the best thing you can do is to get a sea sick patch from the doctor or sea sick pills. if you dont have time to go to a doctor go to CVS and ask the pharmisist what the best thing thats over the counter to take.
and ive been to belize, you should deffinatly go scuba diving! its unreal. |

My husband and I went on a cruise last year, neither got sick until the last night (there was a bad storm) the ship was rocking pretty bad. I put a patch behind his ear, and he was fine within 3 hours, so the party continued. |

I tried the sea bands but they were ugly with my formal gown, so I took the dramamine instead. I got very ill on the Ocean Princess because the water was so rough, don't believe them when they say it's not bad, I have been on many cruises and depending on the time of year you go, where you go, and the size of ship you're sailing on, and the deck you are on are all factors in the sea sickness issue. Have fun |
