the beach is second to none in Punta Cana! You will love it, soft white sand, beautiful turquoise warm water, swaying palm tree's!

Heaven on earth : )

Nice beaches and nothing much else there. You stay in an all inclusive and go on hokey tourist trap tours where you either bake in the back of a 2 1/2 ton truck of get rained on.

There isn't even a town in Punta Cana to mix with the locals in. The ones that work in the hotels are just looking to take the gold out of your tooth fillings.

Sorry but I think all inclusives and Punta Cana are just for tourists that don't know better.

I've never been to punta cana but i went to puerta plata and it was gorgeous. beaches are kind of dirty but other than that beautiful. mingle with the locals there. they truly are amazing people. try not to eat any unwashed fruit or drink unbottled water or eat in the airport. i got really sick when i left. eat lots of dominican food because it's delicious. also their "big meal" (like dinner for us) is served midday not at dinner time. and try to learn a little bit of spanish before you go. it will help tremendously. don't exchange your dollars for pesos at the hotel because they charge a fee. go to a bank and do it there. i guess that's al the advice i can give you.

oh.. and they WILL try to get you drunk. i went when i was 15 and they offered to put rum in ALL of my drinks. but if you are a drinker get the coco-loco. it's where they hack open a fresh coconut and mix the coconut milk with rum and ice. it's to die for.

oh.. and try to tip locals that help you out. the poverty level is pretty high so anything you can do to help will help out a lot.

also, try not to go out alone at night. high povery rate equals high crime rate.

and don't let salesmen try to rope you into a tour of the resort. i wasted half of a day on that.

I have never been to Punta Cana but I went to Samana so will just have to go with photos. Obviously every country had their own beauty. It depends on what you are looking for.

Base on the pics, it is very beautiful with white sandy beaches. There are also many new townhouses and apartment being built that is adding to its beauty.

Very pretty countryside.
Very poor, but proud country.
Drink bottled water.
Mingle with the locals.
Average wage there is $5 a day.
A few pesos goes a long way.
Tips are greatly appreciated.
Great people them Dominican's.
Check out Lonely Planet for valuable info.
Now is the time to go.
Summer is so iffy with the hurricane season and all.
Also, it's pretty important to spend $99 - $120 on trip insurance.
If you have ever been burned, you would know the piece of mind it brings.
