US$ will be accepted at most places were tourist hang. Your best bet is to find an exchange house (casa de cambio) and get some pesos to spend. Avoid trading your USD at hotels as they will kil youwith the rate.
Make sure you know what the FX rate is so you can calculate how many USD you will need to hand over on your purchases.
Have fun |

Got back from Punta Cana on Friday. You'll do best to use the peso. The exchange rate you'll get will vary from store to store, plus a lot of their math does not add up. Most items have a peso price and when they give the dollar price it was always more than what the exchange rate was. Pesos would be the best way to go.
My resort would exchange dollars for pesos, but not vice-versa so be careful to get what you'll spend. I'm sure where ever you're staying will have the same. Have fun! |

the dollar is most definitely accepted, but use peso's when you can so you don't get ripped off. go to the bank to change currency 7 & don't forget to have your passport with you as it is a requirement. |

Exchange it for peso, USD is only good for touristy spots, and is not widely used unless you want to be a target. Like most have said, exchange it at a casa de cambio. On your flight or in the airport, just ask one of your fellow travelers (ex-patriat dominican perferred), and they'll be more then happy to tell you the best spots. |

Dollars are used more. Peso's are rare as the dollars are worth more to the dominicans than the Peso! |
