It depends on what you're interested in while vacationing such as sightseeing, shopping, nightlife and beach. If all, then I highly recommend Barbados.
Nightlife can be seen among Bay Street such as The Boatyard and Harbour Lights as well as in St. Lawrence Gap such as The Ship Inn, Reggae Lounge and other clubs. There's also Club Xtreme on Main Street in Hastings.
You won't regret it. ;)

I have just the place for you, it's the beautiful private island of Saint-Jacques del Alises, which is southeast of Guadeloupe and Northwest of Dominica.
It's an island of about 42,000 people, most of whom live in the Capital city of Port Plessis. All the shops are duty free and the shop keepers all speak excellent english.
The all inclusive BEAUSEJOUR RESORT and MARINA and the Island, is the owned and operated by the family of the Count de Serindan since his death. The 'rooms' are stand alone cabanas built to look like a colorful Caribbean wooden village and each one has a section of their own private beach.
Beausejour Resort and Marina is ALSO THE CHEAPEST DESTINATION RESORT IN THE CARIBBEAN.. they only charge $25 PER PERSON PER DAY (rumored to go up to $35 sometime this year).
Your main problem will be to get a reservation. Since the Europeans discovered this tropical paradise, they are booked almost constantly, but if you try you may be lucky.
Have fun.. it's the cheapest Caribbean experience you will ever have. |

Mexico is not safe to go to anymore says the US Government so good thing you went earlier and it really matters what you want. If you want to sail, go to the BVI and rent a boat from Horizon Yacht Chaters. If you enjoy SCUBA diving then go to the Cayman Islands-Ocean Frontiers Divers or one of the ABC islands...Aruba, Bonair, Curacoa. St. Barts is very luxurious and expensive but very pleasant. Do you want to stay at a huge resort or be more with the locals. It really matters. You can go Travel + Leisure magazine's website to view their favorite resorts for the money and best beaches because your trip could be that much better if you know excatually what you want. Good luck. |

Well if you are into the regular 'tourist' stuff (ie, the beach, tours, etc). then an all inclusive package with flight and accommodations included is best. Jamaica really offers the greatest choices as far as all-inclusive goes and its easy to get air and hotel/meals included for around $600 or $700 right now. That's because they have so much competition.
St. Maarten doesn't have as much all-inclusive, but it is a very nice place to visit and is very tourist-friendly.
If you are more into the eco-tourism thing and you want to enjoy more of nature and the locals, many eastern Caribbean islands offer that as well. The little known island of Dominica, also called Nature Island of the Caribbean, offers lots of this kind of stuff. St. Kitts and St. Lucia are also good choices. Puerto Rico also offers eco-tourism options as well as the regular tourist stuff.
But I find that the best way to experience the Caribbean is on a Cruise. I went on a Carnival Cruise recently to the Eastern Caribbean Islands and found it a great way to get a 'taste' of the islands without committing to hotel and airfare costs. It's fun and definitely something you could consider. Then you don't have to decide on just one island.
Happy Travels. :) |

Barbados, it is beautiful. read about it here.
Information on Barbados
Barbados is a coral island, pushed out of sea by volcanic activity in a far away time. On the West Coast of Barbados, coral shore beaches of fine white sand stretch along a blue-green sea. Coral reefs fringe the Barbados shoreline to provide excellent snorkeling and Scuba Diving. Along the East Coast a lively surf is blown briskly by the strong and constant trade winds and the waves pound against a rocky shore. The constant breeze of the trade winds gives Barbados a mild and pleasant tropical climate.
When you visit Barbados, you will see it is mostly a flat coral island with excellent beaches, but there are rolling hills and many deep ridges and gullies, with an interesting distribution of flora and fauna. Within the Barbados coral core there is a vast array of caves and underground lakes which provide an excellent supply of drinking water that is amongst the purest in the world. Geologically Barbados is unique, being actually two land masses that merged together over the years. This and other anomalies make this Caribbean Island quite phenomenal, and there are geological structures that you will find only in Barbados.
Barbados Expectation
Barbados is a very beautiful island, with lots of art, activities, night life, music, history and some of the best restaurants to be found anywhere. But what makes Barbados even more special, and the reason why so many visitors keep returning to the island year after year, is the people. Barbadians, called Bajans, are warm and friendly souls, always ready to greet you with a sincere smile. Barbadians make you feel welcome and special, in this lovely Caribbean Island. You will feel its your home and will want to come back again and again to Barbados: A unique Caribbean paradise, surprisingly sophisticated, friendly, fun and always Naturally Charming!

You should also take a trip to a popular fishing village (Oistins) on a Friday night where you can get some grill fish, grill potatoes and tartar sauce. Afterward, you can go and see the locals and visitors dancing in the open air to some vintage oldies. This is a sight to behold. There is also craft sold at this location.
