I'm thinking of traveling alone to Punta Cana. Is this a good idea?

I went to Punta Canta about 6 months ago and had a ball. Going by yourself is fine.

The rooms have safes in them and I utilized mine everyday. I found the activities and food to be adequate for an all inclusive resort.

The beaches are beautiful and the weather was absolutely beautiful.

The hotel staff was very helpful and for the most part spoke good english.

The all inclusives really do cater to your every need with pools, bars, restaurants, vendors, gift shops.

We also paid an employee of the resort to take us to town. The ride was long but it was worth it. We visited a cathedral and went shopping.

NOTE:

The country is very poor and the resort employess do not get paid alot of money so I found it extremely helpful to take (100 ) one dollar bills for tips. Tips get you quick service and tables at restaurants that are booked. It can even get you an upgrade at a resort.

The only areas that could present a problem are areas outside of your resort. Typically you don't leave the resort unless you go on an excursion with other travellers and a guide. You will be perfectly fine! Have fun! (But, P.S..... Riviera Maya, Mexico is also all inclusive and much more fun than Punta Cana if you are interested in making a change. There is much more to do and the people are much nicer and more accomodating).

You've never been outside the U.S and you wanna take your first trip alone??? Think about this, in fact, I'm sure you have and might be having doubts, rightfully so.
I've lived in Europe and been to several countries and even though I got comfortable, it's not always very bright to go about on your own, and I'm a pretty big dude.
I would only suggest a lone trip if you were going with a tour group. Why even risk it?

Punta Cana is an area with 99% all inclusive hotels. You probably wont leave the hotel because the place is bare outside of the hotel and there is nothing much going on there.

It is safe to go. Getting robbed by the locals is a bunch of BS. There will be Sankies who will try to make themselves your boyfriend but they are nothing more than prostitutes who work foreign gals. Soon as you go home from a fantastic time or maybe before you leave they will have a sick mother, brother in jail who needs to be bailed out before he gets beaten by the police or some other such thing to part you with your money. They work at the hotels in Animation and many gals fall for this.

Have a good time. You will be safe unless you check your brain at the airport.

IS it one of those "all-inclusive" resorts? If so, then you will be fine. Plenty of travelers go solo to those kind of places. The areas surrounding the resorts aren't always very nice. Be wary of traveling outside of the resort compounds.

If you stay inside the all inclusive you are going to be safe. If you want to go outside it is a good idea to take one of the multiple tours available. Make some friends in the hotel to be with them if you want to go outside to a mall, by bus or walking. Other thing to consider are sankies, they usually are hotel employees or men that goes around hotel looking for women for sex or a "long term relationship" but with the guys expecting to receive money from you. If you are traveling alone and they notice it they are going to make you "fell in love" with them.
