there is a guesthouse that might suit your needs. It is an all inclusive guesthouse with a family feel and it has different tours catering to your needs. It has an " off the beaten path" tour which should be right up your alley
It has a 5 nights 6 days for $856/ person double occupancy plus airfare or there is an optional 7 nights/8 days for $999 per person double occupancy
This guesthouse also has payment plans available so if you wanted to make payments until you have it paid for to take the trip
If you need more information, let me know

There are many inexpensive villas and guesthouses. Everyone I have met in this area is very friendly.

Go to bookit.com trust me!! Me and my husband went to Cancun and Jamaica by purchasing the tickets and resort through that website and you would not believe how affordable. It gives you so many choices and options. Just try and see. Good Luck!

You can visit the friendly website that has frequent visitors to Jamaica, who will be able to help you organise this if you like?

There are people there who have lived in Jamaica for a time and can offer you lots of advice if you want to live there also.

Good Luck!

Well my apt. is as native as it gets...5 minutes from the beach and well furnished. Its near Ocho Rios.

Purely Jamaica
I tend to stay at more rustic and frugal hotels which haven't been invaded by corporate culture. I have a couple of picks for you that will hopefully fit for you. All are very, very reasonable.

The two places that I like are sister properties in Negril. Legends and Samsara. There are cheaper places, but safety is a concern in Jamaica if you're an inexperienced traveller.

Samsara is on the cliffs just a short ride from the beach. Its more secluded and spartan than Legends. There's a free shuttle to Legends (on the beach) and vice versa at 10am and 4pm. I usually catch the shuttle in the morning and hang out at the beach all day. Then I catch the shuttle back to the cliffs and I find a nice locally owned place for dinner.

Legends is right on the beach and is a pretty laidback hotel. The staff is great and comforting. They're very friendly and will gladly talk about Jamaica with you. There's plenty of inexpensive places to grab a meal--whether its i-tal or Western style.
I use travelocity.com to book my trips. I haven't had a bad experience with them. I generally pay $600 for a week w/air and hotel. I fly out of a major hub in the midwest. If you pay attention and sign up for email alerts, you can sometimes book a trip there for $510 or so.

If you're thinking of moving there, remember that you'll need a TRN, work permit, and of course, meet the residency requirements. The biggest obstacle most people have with moving there is money. Jamaica is a developing country (I hate the term 3rd world). The average Jamaican will be lucky to make $4500 a year.

Most importantly, enjoy your vacation and make sure you experience the real Jamaica!!
