moving to a new place gives you an opportunity to make a change.
if its the place you hate, then yes, moving to a more 'realistic' area without the artificial people will be good for you. dominican republic is a beautiful place, and though ive never been to LA, if its as bad as what its potrayed on tv, then im sure you'll be happy with the change.
unlike LA, it has mainly european settlers (which you'l realize have different personalities to americans)
but you have to make an effort to make friends
good luck with the new life ;) |

If youve never been there before you should maybe take a trip there first. but not staying in a fancy resort. find something that would be close to your living conditions if you did plan on moving here.......
also. check out http://www.dr1.com/forums/
this website will give you more then enough information about dominican republic -living,night life, general stuff.... |

It will be so much better if you are not fond of eletricity, running water and hot showers. If you don't mind going with out those things you will be fine. The losers in LA can be found in DR too so don't date anymore losers in either place and I am certain your life will get better. In DR it will definitely be different anyway and maybe that is all that you need. |

When I first moved the boat to the Caribbean, I stopped in the D.R. for about 6 months and I enjoyed it. The people are great.
Immigration is relatively easy, you can even get a residency card and a passport after living there a few years. To immigrate to the D.R. you only need to put $17,000 U.S. Dollars into any bank in the D.R. and can even draw interest on the deposit, so it's an investment.
If you have an independent income of only $2000 per month, from investments or retirement funds, then you can live very comfortably in the D.R. |

Home is where you make it. From what I've know of Dom. Rep. there are some nice parts but just like any other place there's really bad parts. It all depends on your economical status.
The tourist area is real pretty but there's a lot of places that have a lot of poverty, so as long as you have enough money you might me okay.
You've just got to change the way you look at things and it won't matter where you are things will be for the better. |

Do you speak fluent SPANISH?
Do you have a WORK VISA?
HOW do you plan to live... you can't work there?
It takes a PASSPORT to go to the D.R.... have you Even even BEEN in the D.R. or do you only know what you have read on here?
If you are not being a success in Louisiana, the you WON'T be a success in the Dominican Republic... because they are not going to welcome you with open arms unless you have a lot of MONEY.
BTW... I have LIVED in the Dominican Republic... about a year... I lived in Santo Domingo on Ave. Independencia... and I have LIVED in Louisiana... about 6 months in that hell hole called New Iberia.. and I don't really care for EITHER Louisiana OR the Dominican Republic. |
