Ms. Southern Belle

I have naturally curly hair, but like to wear it straight and am going to the St.Thomas VI in two weeks?

I normally flat iron my hair and wear it straight. And when it gets humid or sticky outside it starts to get puffy. Therefore if I know ahead of time that its going to be humid I'll just wear it curly, but this just means that I have to put water on it everyday that its humid to keep it from getting kinky. What is my best option in St.Thomas? Will I be ok if I wear it straight, or will I have to wear it curly the whole time Im there so it wont puff up and get frizzy. Or if you have any other options and/or tips please share them.

If that is you in your avatar, throw out all your hair products containing alcohol. products containing alcohol like mousse and gels might seem to work for your hair type but they do more harm than good (dry, brittle, breakage); ESPECIALLY if you use a flat Iron.
Try : hair polish instead of water for daily wear, and for flat ironing. it makes it manageable and tones down the kink factor, it also helps in preventing your ironed look from becoming a curled look due to humidity.

and for styling and humidity control you can use this gel:

this should work for you in St.Thomas or anywhere else you get the big frizz.

Wear it curly! This is a vacation so you should enjoy yourself and make it easy.

I suggest you wear it the natural way, curly.....

Temperatures can get really hott and humid... then if you'vr visiting the beaches (why wouldn't you) the salt that is in the air.... all these would cause your sleek and street to not be at it's best.

Wear it curly that way you don't have to stress about keeping it straight and you can just enjoy your trip.

Just wear it curly, thats the style anyway. I live in florida everybody with curly hair wears it curly.. and they just use hair gels, mousse, and creams... cuz your hair is going to frizz up in all that humidity!!
I mine will do it too.. and i know you're gonna want to go to the beach and swim, just wear it curly..

products i like
Suave mousse and gel together (the black bottles)
And at walmart in the ethnic hair section there's a big jar of hair gel I forgot the name.. but its clear gel and it feels sorta greasy (it doesn't leave your hair greasy tho) I use this after the beach when my hair is dry ok well good luck I've been to St Tomas before by the way, on a cruise ship. Nice place and is very beautiful out there so many islands around

I used to live in St. Croix. You will have to flatiron your hair, probably more than once a day. You will have to use anti-frizz lotion as well, blowdry your hair first, and then flatiron it. You will be sweating to death and heat sick before you finish.

Many Caribbean buildings have vented windows with no glass in them, for safety reasons during hurricanes, and therefore no air conditioning. I am telling you now you will get sick just from the heat of the flat iron. You are really better off just gelling your hair and crimping the waves/curls so they look nice.

PS Don't kid yourself into thinking you can wear jeans or long skirts, I got there in March, and it was a month before I could wear anything past my knees without sweating to death. Good luck.

Usually it's warm and humid, so I'd say bring a flat iron just in case you have a non-humid day, but most of the time you'll be wearing it curly. Also try a product like http://www.drugstore.com/qxp184811_333181_sespider/john_frieda_weather_works_by_frizz_ease/weather_proofing_daily_shampoo.htm that protects your hair from humidity or a product like http://www.herbalessences.com/us/collections/dangerously_straight/default.jsp that helps make your hair straight. I'd also recommend getting a straightening moouse or hairspray. Hope I helped! :)
