Your US money would be worth more in Jamaica because of the exchange rate, but you need to look at other factors as well. Jamaica is more expensive to do business, and the country is much bigger than Aruba as well as more saturated with businesses such as bars. In the long run, you might be better off opening the bar in Aruba.
By the way, in terms of Aruba being "safe"-- do you remember the US high school student who was killed there a while back? "safe" is relative. Jamaica has more crime than Aruba, but it is also much bigger than Aruba, and it has a much larger population.

In Jamaica the dollar has more value.$70.34 (here is cheaper labor)
In Aruba is guilder $1.50 (here is more stable economy)
You should have an idea of both places, before opening a bar.. do a good research before opening any business in any place or island. (study your area well) Good luck and Success!!! :::--)))

How you would go about it im not sure...but our US money is worth quite a bit in Jamaica.

1 US dollar is worth approx 70 Jamaican dollars.

greg: What are you talking about? I have visited Jamaica enough times over the past 15 years and I wouldn't say the country is not safe OR that Jamaicans hate Americans. Man, I would say the the U.S. is more dangerous than Jamaica....and no... have never stayed in a resort while there. I keep on going back to Jamaica because I really like hanging out with Jamaicans and the country is so beautiful. I would be embarrassed if I were you to say such things.

first last and foremost you have to have he local governments permission a) to live there and b) to work there...ie a work visa or work permit.

They are hard to get.
On some Caribbean islands, which are independent countries after all, it is impossible for an outsider ( BVI < Antigua) to get a permit to open a bar...there's lots of locals with the same idea.......

it's not like moving to Florida from New York.........

so go to those government web sites and see what hoops you have to jump through.....

now, the US Virgin Islands are the US , so in terms of being allowed to work, it IS like moving from NY to Florida if you are an American

$1 us dollar is Afl1.75..
Im from aruba so i should know...
Wel you should start by visiting the islands and loook at the pros and cons of both islands...
Aruba has a good tourism and is safe not like jamaica..

*****EDIT!!!!!! LISTEN HUN SHE WAS NEVER FOUND SO SHE IS NOT TECHNICALLY DEAD DID YOU KNOW THAT!!! YOU ONLY KNOW WHAT THE PRESS WANTED YOU TO KNOW... DO YOU KNOW THE ISLANDS SIDE???? WERE YOU THERE NOOOOO

Jamaica is not safe. They flat out hate Americans. I spent several years on the island of St. Croix about 6 years ago. I've actually been to Aruba and they know the value of the tourist. What a great island. That abduction case was mind blowing. When I was there in 2001, the locals were nothing but nice and polite. there was no crime. It is a great island. go luck wherever you go.

PS you'd probably get more bang for your buck in Jamaica but Idon't think it would be wise..........
