I want to retire and live in the Caribbean but I don't how to get started. Any suggestions?
My wife and I are considering going to Costa Rica. This is one of the very popular retirement areas to go to. There are several Yahoo groups about Costa Rica you can join. Also by going to a search engine and typing in Costa Rica or one of the other Caribbean countries you can find information.
Most are still fairly inexpensive to live in..best to learn some Spanish before you go, and mingle with the natives of the country you will be better accepted if you do. Gated communities separate you from the people and they will treat you as separate.
You can start with the following links and groups for Costa Rica.
Go into "Yahoo Groups" then click on "cultures and communities" then "countries and cultures" scroll down and find "Costa Rica or the country you are interested in".
Good luck in your endeavor

If you've been saving and investing wisely in your 401K or Roth IRA and you have sufficient funds - you can move whereever you like. Before you retire, take a vacation, find the places you like best and see what your housing and living costs will be. If you can afford to buy property, then can you live on what you have left?
If not, then the alternative would be to move to the Caribbean now and work there until you retire.
A great deal depends on how much you have saved/invested and how much you need to spend to live your desired lifestyle.

now or later?? Later investment make sure you have enough money. Now the Caribbean should have something like a chamber of commerce to help you relocate.

Choose a country in the Caribbean and spend an extended period of time there before making a final decision. Check out the culture, economy, etc. to see if you will be able to fit in.
