I am Jamaican born and bred....your 3rd world comment was the absolute truth. It is silly to be offended by the truth...an established fact. Anywho, January is a good time to come for the following reasons:
1. Christmas is a super busy season because almost everyone comes home to spend X-mas with the family.
2. Hurricane season ends in November...goodbye neverending rain!
3. Spring break is around March-ish....do you want to be overwhelmed by spring-breakers? It it also the time that the pre-April rains begin and April is when the pre-hurricane rains begin. Hurrican season begins May/June.
If you want somewhere vibrant and all-inclusive for your honeymoon I recommend you go to any of the resorts in the Montego Bay area. Montego Bay has the "hip strip" with Margaritaville and the Coral Cliff Gaming Lounge among other amusements. You can check out the Super Clubs group: http://www.superclubs.com/destinations/jamaica/. I personally recommend you go to Hedonism 3 in Runaway Bay for your honeymoon. It is not in Montego Bay though and it is not for the little kiddies.
As for booking flights, can't offer much help there. I've heard of people using Spirit Airlines and using flexible date search on AA. There is always Air Jamaica with great service, though the tickets might not be so cheap. |

Portland and Negril are the best places. Riu resorts are always good. The hurricane season is off until spring. |

I have stayed in all three place and you really cannot go wrong. Negril has the nicest beaches. I have never stayed in a resort when I visit. If you plan on staying at a resort, you really should venture out because what's the point in going to Jamaica if you are not going to see the country or hang out with Jamaicans? Why do you think you cannot go out of the resort? |

Go to Sandals website. They have AWESOME discounts and you can get your flight too. Sandals is super nice and their staff is too. They have a special staff that coordinate the parties every night and they have nights where they will take you into town to the local bars (margaritaville, etc.) shopping, etc.
The only $$$ you have to take is for souvenirs or if you want to do something outside the resort (Dolphin Cove, Horseback Riding, etc.) |

The beach in Negril is beautiful. If you want to laze around, this would be the perfect spot.
Personally, I prefer Montego Bay. I think it's more central, if you want to do some tours like Dunn's River Falls etc. Also I like the idea of being by the "hip strip", that way you can get out & walk to different restaurants & shopping etc. Don't be afraid to leave the hotel. Some people are pushy, but just say no thanks, and they're pretty good.
The weather should be perfect in January
Have fun
We are staying at the Royal Decameron Montego over Xmas & New Years, as we are on abit of a budget |

You offended me with the third world comment and I'm not Jamaican......
I stayed in Montego Bay twice, first time I stayed at El Greco 2nd time at another Hotel I can't remember the name of, but I did not stay All-Inclusive- not sure if El Greco Offers all inclusive.I'm glad we didn't choose all-inclusive because we were more into the Island/sightseeing/going to the beach.... Now- I couldn't imagine staying only on the Hotel Grounds for an entire week!!
I plan on going back in January also, and have found plenty of flights- ranging from 5hr to 18hrs. This trip- I want to stay all-inclusive because I'm bringing my son with and he's a picky eater and this is his first time out the country so I want him to be comfortable- And I agree with you as far as going all-inclusive for a Honeymoon.... just to be pampered ;-) But I still plan on leaving the resort...
The websites I've looked at for good deals are:
www.bookit.com
www.cheapcarribean.com
From what I hear, January is peak season, so it should be a great time to go... |

I agree with Honest & others who are offended by the use of the phrase " 3rd world." It may be true that Jamaica is a 3rd world country, but what does that have anything to do with not leaving the resort area?
I have been in Trenchtown on several occasions and I have never had a problem with the people there and I don't think they had any problems with me. I'm white, middle-aged, and balding. I'm just the kind of person a "3rd world" person would be looking for, I suppose. How arrogant. |

January is a good time to travel to Jamaica. I would recommend The Holiday Inn Resort which is all-inclusive. A good website to get the cheapest rates when you book together flights and hotels is www.ytbtravel.com/carmaks I am sure about this because I am a Travel Agent and I'm from Jamaica. I hope you enjoy yourself. By the way Jamaica is a third world country and I dont think you said anything that was entirely untrue. However you can go off the resort, but I would recommend staying on the hip-strip which is the tourist area, you will have alot of partying and night life activities to do their. Its a shopping area with clubs and hotels, beaches the whole works...So go and enjoy your honeymoon... |

Ok what do you mean by a poor struggling country? Are you from a RICH NON STRUGGLING COUNTRY! Suggestion stay where you are . Jamaicans do not need your patronizing attitude. |

Hedonism 3 in Runaway Bay would be the place for you. Not if you have children though. |

You will be suprise when you go to Jamaica
to all kind of living modern living just like in the United State fancy of every thing and one who told you that you cant leave you hotel, they have a mind problem, just Pack you bags and go take enough money to keep you while you are there, and don't listen to fools and their dum idea, Take a trip to Miami airport and see how many people go to Jamaica daily for holidays Berger King and Kentucky and other fast food restaurant is their, how would you get it if you can leave the hotel, Stay in Montego bay and you will see what I mean, March April would be a good time,Third World don't mean that people live in huts, good life is in a third world country. |

Yeah, I heard the weather is perfect year-round. Hurricane season ends early Novemeber, I think. I actually am going to Negril in 3 weeks, but am staying just at a local hotel over there for $60/night. It looks nice, plus it's right on the beach, can't go wrong there.
I booked everything separate, so hopefully everything goes alright. Where are you flying from? I'm from Detroit, and booked round-trip airfare with Spirit for $299.25 round trip.
Good luck to ya!

You try these hotels as they are all all-inclusive: Sunset Resorts in either Montego Bay, Ocho Rios or in Negril but the best one for me is the Holiday Inn. |
