going to Cuba is inconvenient but not hard and you can do it with an American passport as Cuba customs are good at not stamping our passports unless we request it which is not a good idea under the bush regime as he made it a lost more harder to travel there.
but the official rule is it not illegal to travel there but it is illegal to spend money there.so you need to be careful not to bring back receipts and Cuban made items so forget trying to bring back cigars as there is a 100 dollar fine per cigar plus they take them

I would love to go to Cuba too... but I don't want to go to jail... and that is what happens when U.S. Citizens go to Cuba unless they have the proper clearances from the State Dept... such a journalists.

I think you can get approved to go to Cuba for "journalisitic" reasons, but that might be a myth.

I'm pretty sure that you can go with your American passport directly to Cuba without any problems,the main reason is because your family is from Cuba,so the United States will issued an special visa for you and your allow only to spend a certain amount of money while you're there,You can't bring cigars,tobacco or any souvenir from there because of the embargo and you're not be able to travel over there again in the next 3 years.I know this because I'm Cuban and my daughter is American and we travel to Cuba in Feb so my family could meet her and that was the procedure that we have to follow.
Your other question about your husband passport.If you get the mexican passport you can go to Mexico and from there travel to Cuba with the Mexican passport ,but make sure you don't mention that you visit Cuba when you comeback to the USA because that could get you in troubles again because of the embargo.
And yes if they find out that you went to Cuba without a permit from the treasure Department you could get a big big fine.

YOu can go but you must fly out of another country not the United states. But with an American passport you will get alot of question /interrgation
By the way you can not get a Mexican passport just for marrying someone ...if you do not believe me its easy to pick up the phone and call the cuban embassy in Canada or Mexico

No matter how you get to Cuba it is illegal. Even if you fly to one country under a different passport.

The only legal way is through a humanitarian group or as a member of the press. If you want to maybe contact a news agency for help.

if you're an American, like I am, there's no legal way to go to Cuba, because of the embargo. But you could perhaps consider, going to England, and trying to get a British Passport. Because Americans are the only people who can't go to Cuba.
