If from Mexico but have Visa to US can I travel to Puerto Rico?

Hey guys, I have a friend is who wanting to go with me and some other guys to Puerto Rico for Spring Break. He is from Mexico but has lived in the US leally for about 10 years. He is a permanent resident (meaning he has his green card) - Will he need his passport to be able to get into and back from Puerto Rico?

yes definitely. Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the US so you can visit with your visa.

If he can travel from one state to another then YES Puerto Rico is not a State but when traveling is concern is like going to any other state. You are not leaving US by going to PR.

No passport needed. Travel to Puerto Rico from the U.S. is just like traveling to any other domestic U.S. city. i.e., If the plane is arriving into Puerto Rico from the US, upon disembarking the plane you will not be directed to pass through passport control/immigration or customs. As like any flight, you will need picture ID to board so if his passport is his preferred picture ID, then that is fine, but you don't need the passport. Note that upon returning you do have to go through USDA agriculture control (at least at San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport). I love Puerto Rico. Enjoy your trip!!

I am not sure here but I believe you have to be a US citizen in order to visit Puerto Rico with no visa or passport. Permanent residents don't need anything but a valid passport from their country of citizenship and their greencard to enter or leave the US so I'm not sure. Why don't you try visiting the US or Puerto Rican embassy websites in the travel section and find out for sure. Or just search for 'travel documents to Puerto Rico' or something like that. If he does need a visitor's visa, I doubt it'll be a big deal though. Hope you and your friends have fun on spring break though!

Be safe
Ciao! :)

I think it is best to ask this question to the US Dept of State or at his country Consulate, as they have the right answers. You don't want a "maybe" answers here since that may ruin a perfect Spring Break vacation!

He will be able to travel to PR with no problems and he doesn't need a passport. A permanent resident of the US can travel to PR with only a picture ID. It's just like flying form one state to another.
