The US currently has an embargo against Cuba and there are very few legal ways to get there. Unless you fall into one of the licensing-exempt categories you need permission from the US Department of the Treasury (specifically the Office of Foreign Assets Control -- OFAC) before you travel.
There are flights from Miami, FL to Cuba but, again, you better have the Department of Treasury license to go.
If you choose to go to a different country in hopes of bypassing the embargo, please remember that CBP knows about this game, and if you get caught you may be fined thousands of dollars.
It just isn't worth it.

You can go to Cuba. The Cuban government welcomes Americans to their country. When you enter they will not stamp your passport. I am Canadian and I have been to Cuba several times and it is amazing and the people are some of the greatest anywhere.
The stupid law of keeping American citizens from visiting makes no sense. Maybe Americans should not be allowed to visit China, Burma, Vietnam and all other Communist countries. To much lobying from the anti Castro movement. Don't get me wrong I do not agree with the way the government operates in Cuba.
My suggestion is go before Casto dies and it gets overrun by American companies such as McDonalds etc. It is now unspoiled and authentic.

You can go through Mexico as well but it's highly dangerous to go as an American unless you have family in Cuba.
