No, you do not. Puerto Rico is a territory of the US, therefore you do not need a passport to go there or come back! Its just like going to Hawaii. Puerto Ricans are US citizens- they don't need a passport to go in the US. If they go to Europe or something, their passports are US passports. |

You DO NOT!!!!! Need a passport to travel from PR to the continiental US if you are an American citizen!!!!!!!!!!! Remember that Puerto Rico is part of the United States, so American citizens do not need passports to enter and exit the island. Another advantage American travelers have is duty-free shopping, so feel free to hunt for all the good values found in San Juan's many shops. But for other non U.S. citizens, different regulations applies. |

I really wish everyone would get their story staright. Here is the official cited paragraph from the US Department of State. ****The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory. U.S. citizens returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the United States and do not need to present a passport. U.S. territories include the following: Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.***** Puerto Ricans are US citizens, so are the people of the other territories!!!! |

This confusion has been going on for about a year or two now with rumors of passports being needed to travel to Puerto Rico. Here is a little clarification hopefully: Unlike previous years to travel to any caribbean island you will need a passport. This means that before all you needed was a valid id to go to the british virgin island, bahamas, etc. Now you will need a passport for islands that are NOT territories of the United States. You WILL NOT need a passport to travel to PUERTO RICO or any of the U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. The requirements to enter or exit Puerto Rico are the same as for the United States. For U.S. citizens or nationals , traveling to and from Puerto Rico is much like traveling between the 50 states. Therefore, no passport or immunizations are necessary when traveling to the island. However, some form of identification, for example a driver’s license or passport should be carried to evidence U.S. citizenship or identity. U.S. resident aliens traveling to Puerto Rico are required to have a valid passport, and an appropriate U.S. visa when required by the U.S. State Department. US citizens arriving in Puerto Rico from Central or South American countries, or other Caribbean islands are required to show proof of U.S. citizenship or a birth certificate. If arriving from other foreign countries, they should have a U.S. passport. Foreign nationals traveling to Puerto Rico from a foreign country should be prepared to clear Customs as if they were entering the U.S. They must have a valid passport, an onward or return ticket and documents necessary for further travel. |

You do not need a passport. I am from Puerto Rico also and travel all the time so I know what I'm saying. Puerto Rico is a part of the United States. Puertorricans are american citizens. So don't worry, if you're coming in from the US, you do not need a passport |

My mom is from PR and lives in the US. She had to get her passport because after January 2007 everyone will need one. Before that it wasn't necessary because of the citizen thing. God bless you |
