Hi Grant !
This my 3th answer to you: You can use both and you don't have to take Dominican Pesos with you when traveling to the Dominican. As told before you can use your us currency to pay excursions and other things in the resort, the exange rate today is 1 us = 33,70 Pesos When shopping outside the resort it is better to use pesos wich you redrawed from a cashier in or near your hotel. I hope that it's helped like this. |

I just came back from there. US dollar is accepted everywhere at a rate of 30 pesos = $1. Take lots of singles with you, I usually take about $60-$100. Although, if you want a good exchange rate about 34 pesos per dollar, try exchanging them here or at the bank there. You get the worst rate at the airport and hotel.
What airport are you flying to and when? I need to send two cell phone batteries there, would you be willing to take them with you and my fiance would pick them up from you from the airport, please? |

Go and see your travel agent & maybe get a 2nd opinion to make sure..
If you wanna be safe then get them exchanged into Peso's or even better take half and half..
I know that you can use pounds in places where it's euros, so i'd say it's possible
Be safe rather than sorry, get proper advice |

Hi, Grant Again!! :-)
You can bring your US Dollars. then when you arrive at the airport there`s a bank so you can change some money and leave some for your excursions.
withdrawing money from ATM's is another option (but i personally use it when i run out of cash because of bank services charge) this is another option.
Today's rate is 33.70 per US dollars.
Dominican pesos is dominate in the followings:
$1.00 pesos coin
$5.00 pesos coin
$10.00 pesos coin
$20.00 pesos paper* (some existing)
$25.00 pesos coin
$50.00 pesos
$100.00 pesos
$200.00 pesos
$500.00 pesos
$1,000.00 pesos
$2,000.00 pesos
Good luck!!! |

If you don't get ripped off, the currency it's about 30 pesos per 1 dollar. I would strongly suggest you to get Dominican pesos, otherwise you will spend tons of money by paying with US dollars. |

My understanding is that many of the islands accept US dollars, because they are more stable than the local currency.
Best bet, check with their tourist office. Write to them email, someone should get back to you with the answer. |

They accept both. Quit worrying. I was out there two years ago and I used both. They want a tip for everything out there. beware!! |

Dominican Republic Currency
Money: The currency is the Dominican Republic Peso (DOP), divided into 100 centavos. Many of the hotels and restaurants in the main tourist destinations display their prices in US dollars as well as in Dominican Pesos, as US dollars are widely accepted and some places will also accept Euros. The peso cannot be exchanged outside of the Dominican Republic. Major currencies can be converted into pesos at Central Bank approved bureaux; only 30% of the pesos bought can be re-converted and this only if the original receipts are produced, so it is best not to buy more pesos than you are likely to need. Major credit cards are accepted everywhere, but a commission is usually charged and it is recommended that you only use your credit card at your hotel as fraud incidents have been reported. The best exchange rates are paid on US travellers cheques and secondly on US dollars cash and are best exchanged at exchange bureaux (casas de cambio). Banking hours are Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm; some banks also open on Saturday. ATMs are widespread.

Trust me, nobody on the island will turn down dollars, but it is a good idea to have some pesos if you are going to leave your resort to explore. If your going to shop, I'd just use a credit card and get the best rate. But you should get a few pesos just in case. |
