Its the best country in the world!
You may find some of the waitresses a bit rude or stubborn...but its just their 'laid-back' attitude to life!
They eat both rice and potatoes along with a meat dish!
If you are stayiLawrenceSt Lawerence Gap, would should try and get food off a believeh i beleieve is called "Roy's Van". It sells traditional Bajan food such as Chicken Foot Soup (btw do not ask for the chicken foot unless you're adventurous!), Flying Fish, Chicken Rice and Peas and many more depending which day it is. It come usually around lunchtime when i was over there last!
Also you must try to go to Oistins. This is along the south coast and is a fish market in the day, but during the evening and night has little bars and food places. You must check out "George's Fish Grill" who does a meal for about $5Bajan!
You can also try a Roti which is a savoury pastry with a meaty filling of your choice! Try curried chicken at the "Roti Hut" also neoppositeap, oppostie a Shell Petrol Station!
Along Miami Beach there is a Van that sells amazing Flying Fish Cutters! And also Granny's Kitchen a little supermarket sells meals at cheap prices!
Make sure you venture out of your hotel, although the food in the hotel will be amazing..you must try out the local dishes served by the real Bajan nation! You will have a ball!
I'm going within the next week or so and can't wait!!! |

You have to try the fish cakes, too!
Flying fish, plantain, fish cakes, breadfruit, rice n peas.
Whatever you do, DON'T have your hair braided. Nothing screams 'TOURIST" more than that. |

Please ignore everything jusjaz said. None of it is true. There were no recent shootings or stabbing incidents and during cropover there wasn't any crime. Only petty thefts...2 cars were broken into. This person is a sad pathetic liar who needs praying for.
We also have two daily newspapers contrary to what they said.
It is very safe to venture anywhere and as you are a tourist it'll be even safer for you. |

Um, yes, you can leave the hotel, it's pretty safe.
Um, go to Chefette and the BBQ Barn, or better yet, the cafeteria on the top floor of Cave Shepherd. That's as authentic as you can get with Bajan food. |

Yepp the flying fish with the hot sauce as stated below, I got back two days ago, that was my fourth time there.
There is a lot of rice, don't think I went a day without eating it in 2 weeks!!
Lots of sweet potatoes aswell as I remember, they weren't that nice though.
They are so big on chicken, one of the workers told me they got through about 3million chickens a year.
Enjoy, I am sure you will love it.
I stayed in the Almond Beach Village and there was a restaurant there called Enid's which was based on the local food in Barbados, from the safety of the resort!!
When we did go to Bridgetown, and went on walks surrounding the hotel, there were a few beggers asking us for money, and people selling things who threw them into your hands and it was hard to get away.
We found if you smile politley and say no thankyou or sorry we don't have money on us at the moment, then they do leave you alone and move on to the next tourist.
Hope this helps, I recently got back from my 2 week stay, I love Barbados :) |

You need to eat their fresh flying fish and kingfish with the Barbados hot sauce!!
It is amazing!
Always be careful as a tourist when venturing out....but Barbados is relatively safe. But it's best to not go out alone, especially at night.
The roads are 'British driving' -- on the opposite side...and if you're not used to that, especially at night, it's best to have someone experienced with you...or a tourguide....you can end up in a cane field (a friend's personal experience lol)...and may lose your direction.
The food is great in Barbardos! and the island is beautiful too.
Make sure you check out the coral...it's a coral island and they sell beautiful coral there. |

Do not listen to that Jusjaz.
I went their last christmas.
We satyed in an allinclusive resort and foud ourselves eating out every night.
A place you should defo go to is the Oistins fish bbq. Its on a friday and saturday night. They have got all kinds of fish and its cheap!
There are plenty restraunt located in St.Lawrences's Gap. Theres a great Mexican there which also serves traditional bejan food.
But theres a place called 'Berts' a canadian restraunt. DONT STEP FOOT INSIDE!!!! trustt mee haha.
But yeah Its cheap enough food and its better to get out of your hotel once in a while.
And know you wont be hassled!!
Hope this was usefull!

I just got back 11hrs ago. Barbados is just like the other Caribbean lslands when it comes to food. There is a place named Oistins and it's basically fish, fish, and more fish with potato fries/chips or bread fruit.
There are fish cakes, fried fish, grilled fish, bar-b-qued fish..... l wasn't too interested in their "rice and peas" tho, and that's their main way of cooking rice.
Barbados has crime but because they're big on tourism they don't make a point of putting it on the front page of their newspapers.
Just be careful of your surroundings and if/when you visit Lawrence Gap, be VERY careful because there are lots of muggings in that area. |
