Cuba is safe and the attention men give women is typical. It's still a machisimo mentality and Cuban men love beautiful women. They do compliment women a lot and 'flirt'. But it's not always in a bad way and don't always want something from you. Sometimes they just simply enjoy beauty.
If you respect yourself, they'll know how to be respectful of you. But that won't stop them from complimenting you.
As College girl said, there are jineteras (men and women alike). There is nothing wrong with wanting to share a meal or treat a Cuban friend to a drink but you'd want to be sure not let it things go further than that. Some do like to take advantage (which happens anywhere you travel to)...but not all do. Cubans in general are genuine and not advantageous. Respect yourself, they'll respect you. And you'll be able to spot whose trying to befriend for less than honorable reasons.
Just keep your senses and smarts about you. Don't go anywhere secluded or alone even though it is safe in Cuba. Stick together with a friend and don't be scared if you get whistled at a lot, looked at or get many many 'Holas'.
Don't bring your flashy jewellery to Cuba. It's not necessary. Don't flaunt and keep your dress modest but nice.
And go and HAVE A GREAT TIME! |

i have been to cuba 5 times, will be six in may. Of course they have more of an interest in women, just like any other straight man in any other country. its all in fun though, ive never felt uncomfortable. cuba is a great, safe place to travel. dont worry |

yes, very true, theyre called jineteros, they pretend to like you in order to get you to have sex with them while you pay for everything. look it up, its either gineteros or jineteros.
also, they will try to sell you cigars in every corner, take a money bell, and beware of people snagging purses while you walk the streets. thats the only crime but it can be a hassle.
so beware, remember everyone or mostly every male is going to expect for you to buy them drinks as they dont have a lot of money, and as always you can buy a drink or 2 just make sure they dont take advantage, also beware of sad stories, mother is sick, i have to pay rent blah blah... |
