Some travel agencies specialice in trips for singles but they are usually more expensive so that wouldn't save you much. This is one of the injustices that singles suffer. It's just like when you buy a flat. You still need the kitchen, bathroom and all that and don't have anyone to share the expenses with.

Very seldom you'll find a place that doesn't charge a premium for single occupancy. However, there is a cute little place on Barbados called Peach and Quiet, right on the sea, that doesn't...you won't believe their good prices. Simple place, but it looks nice; I'm going there in a month, staying a few days before I pick up a cruise ship out of Bridgetown.

Yes. Try Bodyholiday at Le Sport in St Lucia. They are one of the few Caribbean resorts that caters for singles. They have a large block just for single people. It's a lovely resort too (I've just come back form there).

Unfortunately 99 % of hotels are based on Double Occupancy. If you are staying at an all inclusive of course you will not pay for that person who isn't in the rooms meals/beverage part of the cost. The hotels see it as two people "could be in that room" so therefore they are just all under the double occupancy rule.

I understand it isn't quite fair for singles, however this is just the way it is for hotels unfortunately. Most though say for example if you book a room as a single room and down the line find a person who is wanting to join you, then you can add that person into your room most likely. This depends on how you book it and where you book it on if you can do this or not.

I don't know where you live or what type vacation you want but I suggest Las Vegas, NV. Its a 24/7 town that will have some great prices on rooms during the latter part of November and into December. You need to check the hotel web sites for the days with the best rates because prices can vary from day to day and week to week. Rates are cheaper Sunday through Thursday nights. You should be able to get a room in a major hotel like Ballys, Monte Carlo, or Flamingo for under $100 a night. You can book any of their rooms single but you will not get a discount for being single.

Besides the great hotels the city has first rate shows and restaurants. There are great clubs there if that's what you want, and then there is gambling.

It sucks, doesn't it? I haven't been abroad for 10 years because of these single supplements. If I ask at a travel agents they are usually not interested. If you don't mind backpacking then that will save a bit of money - websites like lonely planet will help out.

Stay at a youth hostel in the dorm area. You only have to pay for the bed then share the room with others. Great way to meet people.

Candi L
If you book hotels directly they don't charge a supplement. Its when you book a resort such as an all inclusive that you incur a surcharge.

If you can pay and go, then pay the extra and be glad to get the chance.

I haven't had a holiday since 1989!

bellefemme
Take me I'll go Dutch :)

avanging bride
hedonism will bunk you with another single traveler so you both can get the double occupancy rate. when we were there all we did was sleep in our room. the resort has much to do all day and night.

I agree with "Candi L", if you deal directly with a hotel/motel, you can explain your situation and perhaps they will give you a single rate, rather than a "package". The site "TripAdvisor" has reviews of places that previous travelers have been besides what is available in the area that you are interested in visiting.

I know that really isn't right. the companies do it just to get more money, but better than sharing a room etc. with someone you don't know.
