Im planning and comparing two cruises. Is a better destination ochos rios jamaica or belize city??

I posted an answer to your other question, too.

When I said I prefer Belize to Ocho, that's because I like to snorkel. We did an excursion right from the boat in Belize, so we didn't even set foot on the mainland. I, too, felt somewhat unsafe in Ocho, though the last time we just took the five-minute walk over to Island Village/Margaritaville and hung out [no harassing vendors allowed!].

Ocho Rios is by far the better stop. You have Dunnes River Falls in the area and there's a Margaritaville to go to. While you're there, pick up some Blue Mountain Coffee (some of the best on the planet).

Belize City is *very* third world and depressed. There's supposed to be great snorkeling, but I haven't tried that.

Been to both places but never on a cruise. Ocho Rios is OK if you don't spend much time in the tourist areas. Downtown is not very fun. If you go to Ocho Rios head down the main road out of the city about 10-15 minutes and spend the day at Reggae Beach.

Belize City is also not very fun because if you're not used to the environment it can be a bit intimidating. I spent two days on the last leg of my Belize trip in Belize City. If you go to Belize don't stay in the city. Maybe catch a water taxi to Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker. San Ignacio was out favorite part of Belize, but it's inland near Guatemala and you probably wont have time to go if your just stopping on a cruise.

I know some people are not going to like my answer but it is my true experience. I went to Ocho Rios and while I didn't mind Dunn River Falls, I felt very unsafe the whole day and the tourguide who was supposed to take us to the listed places added a stop at a VERY aggressive open air market where we bought Blue Mountain coffee. When we got home the coffee was fake. It didn't even turn the water brown.

When it came time to plan our second cruise, I told the travel agent that I wanted to take the kids (22,20 and 17) along and go to all the same ports except Ocho Rios. She said that a lot of people felt that way and the cruiseline had changed some of its offerings to Belize instead. We went cave tubing in the rain forest and had a fantastic time. Belize is more rustic. Some say it's more like the Caribbean was 25 years ago. But I prefer that kind of charm to Jamaica's crime record against cruise passengers. JMHO.

IT DEPENDS IN OCHO RIOS THERE IS DUNNS RIVER WHERE YOU WALK UP A RIVER FALLS (MUST BE YOUNG AND VERY TONED) THERE IS SHOPPING CLOSE BY THE SHIP IN BELIZE YOU HAVE THE CAVES AND A LAZY RIVER RUN BOTH ARE VERY DEPRESSING PLACES WHERE YOU SEE VERY POOR PEOPLE.
