dude, your not going to get shot. I guaranteed you that. Honestly. Not even in daylight, that its stupid men. Crimes in Puerto Rico happen because of drugs so I highly recommend you to stay away from drugs, cause then you could probably get shot. cidra its a beautiful place and a beautiful town and everything. There is a great quality life here in Puerto Rico, except for the economic struggle we are going through, besides here you can Live and probably last longer here than being in another big city.

This are just exaggerations, dont listen to the first girl since she just visited, listen to somebody that was born and raised there like me. Crime was in its prime back in the 90's and even then you could be everywhere at night. I went there October and Puerto Rico is nothing like it was before... it was so calm.

Puerto Rico is like any other place. There are good areas and bad areas. When you go there on vacation you should be prudent and be cautious. I don't know why people insist that it is any more dangerous than any tourist destination.

Take New York, there are people that say they would never come to New York, there's crime and violence. Yet People live here all their lives.

Violence and crime has no preference as to location. If you were never to go anywhere where you might get hurt, you would never go anywhere.

You could stay home and never leave and just as well slip and fall in the bathtub and hit your head and get killed.

When your day is up, it's up no matter where you are. You can't let fear dictate your every move.

People are always exajerating about things. Life in PR is much more laid-back than in the states. Crime is similiar to anywhere else. Just be careful about getting a job, ect or being financially okay b/c it can be hard at times to find jobs, depending on the area. I live in Utuado, which is considered very "campo" but I love the mountains and fresh air. I moved here from Ohio

Hello
Cidra, Villa de bosque and Cayey are very nice places to live, in fact some people can find Cidra too quiet, but it is still a beautiful place to live. About the crime, it does exist anywhere in the island and by all means anywhere in the planet. It just a fact of life. I think what you have to be concerned more is with the financial aspect because there is not enough job growth in the island.

I am not saying in non existant, but that area is pretty good. And for the rest of the island , most people find living in San Juan is like living in New York.

If you don't have the financial aspect to worry about, then you have a good chance to enjoy the island... the arroz con habichuelas, el mojito, the beaches, the tempeture (Cidra has one of the best climates) the mofongo, and everything else Puerto Rico has to offer. And you do need a car to get around!

Hope this helps,
Guasabara

I've lived here for about 6 months. I'm in Condado. It's reasonably safe and lots of Americans live there and in surrounding neighborhoods (Ocean Park and Isla Verde). You don't tend to want to stray into side streets, as you would tend to avoid in any big city, but I can walk up and down the main street, Ashford Ave., without fear both day and night. Best advice is to mind your p's and q's - typical rules of a city apply - you can see a homeless person and a Lamborghini in the same block. Don't flash your money, etc. The neighborhoods are very much in the style of Latin America in that most nice apartments, condos, neighborhoods, and homes are gated. It's just something you get used to seeing.

That's country side is very quiet..only the nmetropolitan areas are as dangerous as any other cities...

yes that areas are good , but I sugest the west area

Define safe? Crime exist every where and if you want to live at a comfort zone similar to people living at Park Ave or 5Th Ave, then this mean you better have money to live in a gated upscale community. But that does not guarantee that you will be safe when you leave home to do your errands.

The crime reportage you often hear are people involved in crime, drug dealing and etc., at least the majority of it! Showing your nervousness is a give away to a criminal too.

My best advice is to use common sense and listen to yourself intuitively rather than judging, then you will feel safe and a sense of freedom will arise.

Cidra and Cayey are very nice and quiet. Its in the mountains it's beautiful but like any where in PR, a car is a necessity, specially if your in the mountains. I prefer Cayey which is more on the "civilized". You'll find a big mall with Walmart and theaters. I know! Who would have expected Walmart in the middle of the mountains of Puerto Rico? Not everybody here is a serial killer but don't provoke people in PR some people here have a very short fuse. The one thing no Puertorican seems to tolerate is if you say something offensive about their mother. The probable outcome you'll get insulted or chopped up into little pieces. Most people are very hospitable if you're in there house, most likely they will offer you to stay for lunch or dinner and neighbors help each other. Long story short if you like the country side you'll love Cidra or Cayey.

well, yes to be honest, it is true, BUT it does depend on the area. i am not originally from PR, but my fiance is in which we vacationed there last june. everything was beautiful, including the rainforest. but when night fell, we tried to stay inside. mainly if you are in an area like bars, some clubs, or even streets late at night you are in the wrong place. what is most scary to me is when a crime does happen, the next morning the details along with pictures of dead bodies are on the front cover. but this is not always the case. you are liable to get shot in plain daylight if you "piss off" somebody or if you yell at them for cutting you off while your driving. my suggestion is to move to a nice country area, maybe near the mountains, stay inside when it gets dark, and never ever respond angerly to anyone, and everthing should be fine. just make sure you survey the area and see what kind of people may be your neighbor. i know how you feel i would be scared too but to be honest with you, danger and violence can happen anywhere at anytime and when you are out on the streets, even if your going to a movie, you have to always be aware of your surroundings. the area your planning to move to sounds like a nice place, but then again always remember that something can happen at anytime, even where you live now. not trying to scare you, but your safety is most important. i love PR and if given the opportunity i would live there, in the country right on top of a mountain in El Yunque LOL i hope this helps you!!
