Best place to exchange money is at the airport. The exchange rate changes slightly all the time. Go with the rate you get at the airport as a guide what it should be when you deal with others outside of the airport. |

When you get off the plane in Jamaica you can exchange your money right there in the airport.
When you are away from resorts and in towns or locally owned stores everything will be priced in JMD (Jamaican Dollars)
The conversion is roughly
$100.00 US = $6,400.00 JMD
That said the inflation in Jamaica is great so you do not get as much out of your dollar as you may expect. Resorts bill in US dollars and when things are charged in JMD they are inflated to match the US equivalent. So, you may save a little money but its not that much.
I hope this helps, have fun.Jamaica is a beautiful place! |

I wouldnt change money at the airport as you get a crap exchange rate. I would change it at a bank as far away from the airport as possible! |

Hey philly how are you? I am a travel agent in Jamaica and to answer your question precisely you have countless establishments inclusive of cambios, banks etc to exchange your money. To answer your question on prices it depends on which city you decide to dwell in, if it is Kingston the capital of the island, prices are quoted mostly in Jamaican currency, if its one of the major tourists cities such as Ocho Rios or Montego Bay prices will be in your currency which will enable you to spend even if you dont have Jamaican currency on you, I really hope you come as it would be good to have visitors especially this time of the year when the beaches are alive and beautiful. |

Almost everyone in Jamaica takes US $s but when they give change back they must (by law) give it in Jamaican Dollars. And the exchange rate is around 1 US $ = 25 - 16 Jamaican $. |

We do not exchange our money. We always pay in American Dollars you get a better deal as it is worth more to them. Just make sure you take LOTS of 1's and 5's. If they tell you a price in Jamaican ask them how much in American and it drops alot. The exchange rate now at the airport is 65 jamaican dollars to 1 us dollar. If you exchange anywhere else it is usually 60-1. |

well here and jamaica most tourist resorts take US$ infact even if things are priced in Jamaican they'll give u an exchange price so u don't have to worry about changing any money unless u want a souvenier or something. It's roughly JMD65 to US$1. I must tell u though that some retailers may want to take ur US$ for less than it's worth tho so be sure to ask questions first. |

When you buy something, often the seller prefers American money because they can go to the black market to trade it in . So don't convert too much. There are always places to convert $ and everyone that I can recall accepts American. |

Be careful when using american money. I remember going into one of the souveneir shops, and the man there was trying to cheat us out of our american money. My mom's friend is jamaican so he knew exactly what the guy was doing. When I get there I go to the bank and change my money over immediately. |
