Is Jamaica a part of the EU?

meaning that, since Jamaica was once a British colony, do the countries in the UK consider Jamaica as part of their European union?

Jamaica is a fully independent country and it is in the Caribbean... thus it stands no chance of being in the EU.

We are now celebrating independence which was granted on August 6, 1962.

No, none of the former colonies are in the EU.

Britain's current and former colonies are exempt from mandatory EU requirements.... Ofcourse independent countries like Jamaica, Barbados, 'French' Dominica, The Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Belize, Guyana, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Antigua & Barbuda etc. are all independent of the UK and the UKs membership to the EU has nothing to do with the forementioned countries anymore than the EU does to Canada and the United States. Many of the UK's current territories pick and choose what they will implement from the EU.

Personally I believe if the UK had granted most of the former colonies as much freedom as it now grants Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Montserrat, the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla etc. I think the majority islands may not have pushed for full blown independence as they did in the 1950's - 1980's.

I mean if you look at the English Speaking Caribbean today all we basically did is switch our dependence on the UK to a dependence on he USA instead. A worthless change IMHO.

no, no former colonies, territories, etc., are considered part of the EU. this also applies to other ex-colonies of other EU members, i.e. former French colonies in West Africa

No it is not! No former colonies of the GREAT BRITAIN are in the EU, but Martinique and Guadeloupe belonging to FRANCE and are associated with the EU.
