Mr Forde

Is Kingston, Jamaica A Nice Place To Go On Holiday?

I will not say no because Kingston has some very spectacular attractions and nice hotels. There is Port Royal, plus you can go to Portland, which is not too far away, on a tour. Kingston is not exactly as tourist-ey as, say, Ocho Rios or Negril, but if you are willing you can have an awesome time there. There are beaches in Portmore [30 minutess away] and dozens of places to see like Bob Marley Museum.

All you need is someone to hang with and all will be well.

I visit there in 1983 and did not have any problems. My Jamaican friend that excorted me there kept telling me he didn't want to take me there because of problems they have there. But that made me want to go there even more. He gave in and took me there. He was afraid but I didn't get that feeling. It was like some of the areas you'll find in larger cities in the U.S. Visiting Kingston added to the highlights of my overall visit.

One of my friends has been in her home country this whole summer. She is from Kingston. I know she is having a ball. There are plenty of parties, attractions, and culture. Kingston is the REAL Jamaica when you want to experience Jamaican culture. I will be in touristy Negril next week and I wanted to make the trip to Kingston but I won't really be on the island long enough to do that. Anyway, go and have fun.

Just be very careful as you would anywhere. Don't do anything to call attention to yourself and stay away from the areas that are bad.

prettz_89
Well Kingston is mostly corporate and business It can be fun if you know where to go I am also from Jamaica and am still living there if you are looking for a vacation its best if you go the north coast like Negril, Ocho Rios or even Montego Bay. If you are looking for a cultural and adventurous experience you can go to Portland, St. Elizabeth or St. Mary.

PS. Don't mind the Crime Rate, Just don't do anything you wouldn't do in your home country. Remeber crime is everywhere.

You'll be arite man jus easy yuhself and kool.

heres jhonny
everything that has been said is true but i stay in newkingston downtown and the ghettos are horrible but in some parts of uptown and newkingston i have had a preety good time with a few problems it still isnt safe to wander the streets late at night alone or without direction but if you have proper contacts you can have a good time in new kingston i did and i know people who go to newkingston for holiday

kingkong
wow it's not soo bad, actually it is. I'm there now but I know my way around but still, if you really want to come to jamaica you should go on the north coast, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. you will have no need for kingston, only if you want to go to the Bob Marley museum and other attractions. but dont think you can walk around freely in Kingston as in America without something happening...there is too much senseless murders and such, so the best thing is to stay on the north coast, its very fun there....

Im from jamiaca and i wouldnt go there if my life counted on it but thats not the only place in jamaica to on vocation. You can go to montego bay, negril, ocho rios you will have a fabulious time trust me. dont use kigston and difine the whole country. have fun when you decide to go.

Maui Guy
Kingston, NO. WAY TOO much crime and dirty....
Montego Bay, NO. WAY TOO old and run down...
Ocho Rios, Ummm,,,no. TOO many tourists and americanized
(LOTS of cruise ships dock here)

Better: Port Antonio...East end, Lush and tropical...where they filmed Cocktail with Tom Cruise.... Hotel Mockingbird. Book with Shireen or Barbara....The best in the area.

Best: Negril: Rock House for West End Cliffs....or Charela Hotel for 7-mile beach. Ask for second floor, ocean front. Google each. Both are excellent.

Go to the west coast its better for vacay. ex Negril Ocho Rios Montego Bay etc. Im from JA so I know dont live there ne more though. Best place though I think is Mandeville nice cool and reserved. Tropics View Hotel very nice http://www.tropicsviewhoteljamaica.com/

I don't lkie Kingston... too much crime.

I like staying on my boat at the Errol Flynn Marina and Boatyard in Port Antonio. It's clean, safe and they are a full service marina and boatyard. I can stay on a mooring for just $10 per night if I pay by the month. As far as I'm concerned, it's the only place in Jamaica that is worth the effort to go to... the rest of the island is too poor and too dangerous REGARDLESS of what the smiling touists try to make you believe on the TV commercials.

If you really want to go to the caribbean, there are a lot of NICE islands you can go to... so there is no excuse for going to Jamaica.

IPercy
No. Been there. Very scary, lots of people selling drugs, very high unemployment, high crime rate and lots of deadbeats selling trinkets. They are unwilling to accept no as an answer.

There are a few nice places to visit in Jamaica but there are MANY nicer islands in the Caribbean.
