The "L" Word
No immigration or customs going to Puerto Rico. If returning to the states your bags must go through FDA agricultural inspection and pass through an x-ray. Once certified that you are not carrying any harmful plants or animals that can hurt U.S. agriculture, a sticker is placed on your luggage and then you can go to your airline and check-in for your flight.

silentnonrev
no customs, no passports, just as if you were flying to Des Moines (but better weather and beaches)

The Shadow
Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so it is not an international flight. It is just like flying within the 50 states.

You can confirm this on the U.S. State Department website (www.travel.state.gov).

hellnocutco
no. it is a US Territory. I flew from NYC to Puerto Rico and I had a layover in Florida.

LutherTM98
No, since Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States it is not considered an international flight. It would be like flying to Hawaii from the states. No passport needed either. I like the airports in PR better than the ones in the states also. When my return flight was canceled they were really nice about arranging my new return flight free of charge! Also, going through the whole airport process is smoother there too, faster, and smoother. If you are going to fly to Puerto Rico though I recommend flying with only ONE airline....once you hit Florida normally you will have to change planes and if you chose another airline then that will more or less likely be where you change too...which means a long hike across the airport! A REALLY LONG hike!!!

No, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth and a territory of the US, so is much like flying to Hawaii.

No it isn't international it is US territory. My Mom is from Puerto Rico and she never needed anyting, BUT now for safety measures there has been "rumors" of having to have passports, but I am not sure how true that is.
