Is Puerto Rico as beautiful as they say?

I've wanted to visit Puerto Rico for a while now. Unfortunately, I was not able to go this summer, so my cousin and I wanna go next year. I've seen photos and have totally fallen in love. Everyone who has been there tells me it's the most beautiful island they've ever seen. I went to St. Thomas and St. Maarten last week and both islands were beautiful, in my opinion. Is Puerto Rico that much more beautiful, or is it about the same?

Also, does anyone have any travel tips for us? We'll probably go by ourselves, unless we decide to bring friends. I'll be 19 next year and she'll be 18, if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Hi!

I have been the Puerto Rico several times and I can't get enough of it. Puerto Rico offers a variety of activities for all ages, as Lilly_Mom_PR described.

For lodging, if you are interested in staying in an area that feels like home, private area with easy access to the beach, I would highly recommend Numero Uno on the Beach Guesthouse in the Condado area, which I've stayed twice. There you will find Pamela's Restaurant where you can sit and have your Virgin Pina Coladas and meal right on the beach. It's so romantic, relaxing and inviting. And the beaches, OMG, beautiful. You will enjoy all the water & land activities that they offer.

The people are definitely warm, friendly and gorgeous too! Don't worry if you don't speak the language, the locals have a good handle on speaking the English language and very well so you never have to feel as though you need to carry a translation book around.

If you drive, driving there is very easy and I've accomplish to drive around the whole island in approximately 8-10 hours (non-stop, of course) and got to see the biggest antenna in Arecibo plus the most beautiful landscapes in the world. If you choose not to drive, there is public transportation.

For it's cuisine, you have Pamela's Restaurant for their presentation meals, if you choose to stay or not and El Jibarito for authentic Puerto Rican Cuisine in Old San Juan, which as a seasoned whole fish dish for $15-20 to die for.

Land activity Ideas: El Morro in the Historic Old San Juan, Old San Juan's shopping area, El Yunque Rain Forest, Plaza Las Americas Shopping Mall, Rio Camuy Underground Caverns, Arecibo Observatory, Bacardi Rum Factory, Coliseum - Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot, Puerto Rico Art Museum.

Puerto Rico is also one of the most inexpensive trips you can ever take. You have to go at least once in a lifetime! Enjoy if you go!

Greetings from la isla del encanto (the island of enchantment) Puerto rico is the most beautiful island in the world i have been to the bahamas st tomas st martin aruba and curacao and there is no comparison with puerto rico especialy the people are super nice also if u live on the US remember that we use the dollar so u dont have to change ur money to another coin and that english is the second official language so most of us speak enlish . I recommend that you go to the old san juan wich is the colonial part of the island and there you will find fortreses old buildings monuments and really chic restaurants hotels and discotecs.the area of condado is beautifull also and is a really hip place .The place that YOU HAVE TO GO without a doubt is the beach of culebra it is considered to be the 3rd most beautifull beach in the world !!!!!! and of course you have to visit the puerto rican rain forest El Yunque .And if you like to go shopping we have the biggest mall in the caribbeanit is called Plaza Las Americas.

Yes it is..Plus You don't need a Passport to go there. they Speak English, same US currency and there's something different to do every day....

lilly_mom_pr
I'm Puertorican born and raised, so you'll probably think my opinion is biased... but you are going to get it anyway ;)

I agree with ChocoTy that every country has nice and bad places... But I do believe Puerto Rico is beautiful. And in my opinion, the best thing about my country is there's so much to do.... you have the beach, and also the forrest, you have lots of historical monuments, great clubs to go dancing, great malls to go shopping... I guarantee you will never get bored.

I don't know if you plan on staying in the San Juan area or travel across the island... So in San Juan I can recommend visiting El Morro which is a castle built by Spaniards... you can visit Old San Juan, with keeps its colonial look from the Spaniard years, for shopping Plaza Las Americas is a great mall with a good variety of stores and you can even go to the movies there. You can also go to El Condado, a great tourist area with good hotels and stores...

Hope this helps !

I hope you like my Island as much as I do and that you have a great time next year !!

I've not been to Puerto Rico but I found some fabulous sites for you to read and I've frequently used websites to decide whether or not to travel to a place. I just read an assortment and make my judgment! These also have a lot of pictures~

Do research about the country, visit safe tourist areas, and always ask the locals, and if you have Puerto Rican friends ask them too.
