We are unincorporated territory of the United States. Or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico which means literally in English: "Associated Free State of Puerto Rico".
We can vote for the primaries but we can't vote for the presidential election.
And for the one talking about the passport you don't even need a passport to come to PR |

No, but it is a U.S. territory. They enjoy most of the benefits of being a U.S. citizen without having to pay taxes. The U.S. Virgin Islands are the same way. I think we should just make them states and be done with it. |

Technically speaking, no. According to US Supreme Court territories are not "part" of the USA, but they "belongs" to the USA. A possession "belongs" to the owner, it is not "part" of the owner.
We are an organized and unincorpored territory of the USA, same as the US Virgin Islands. (For all practical means we are a colony, the last colony of the Western Hemisphere and probably of the world, although many in the USA and PR object the use of the term). |

Actually we are, I am from Puerto Rico, we are actually voting for your presidential primary, Hillary or Obama this week, we do pay taxes, and we have a national tax. This is a very common conversation, we are like in between being a state and independent, we have the best of both worlds, but we also go to war with the US military and use USPS. Hope that clears everything. But we are not a State. |

We are part of the US but technically speaking we don't belong to them. A few years ago, taxes were imposed and we do get to vote in the Presidential elections but we are not a state. YET that is. |
