It depends on what part of the island. Metro which is San Juan and sorrounding area will be expensive. If you go inland or to the south it is much cheaper. I rent out my house 3 bedrooms single family with a little inlaw apartment in back, fenced 1/4 acre in the country for 200 a month. There is breed specific legislation in the works, so they are trying to restrict bully breeds. Make sure your dogs are on heartworm preventative as they need it year round. And a good flea and tick preventative if you will be living in the country. good luck. Wanna trade? I'm going back to Chicago soon. |

Puerto Rico as a whole, yes it is pet friendly! I have three dogs and two birds and lots of people I know have pets too.
If you are looking to buy a house, you will probably have no problem finding one with a back yard. The price varies a lot with the area and it typically ranges from 150K to 300K for a "typical" home.
Many apartment complexes don't allow pets such as a dogs and cats, even if you buy the apartment. That doesn't stop people from having a tiny dog or a cat in there, though. Some apartment buildings do allow pets, but ground-level apartments are more expensive than higher-level apartments.
Rented places don't allow pets most of the time, but there are exceptions and the only way to know is asking the landlord. |

There is pet friendly hotels, but thats about it.
PR is not a pet friendly place because you cant even go to a nice park or beach and play and spend time with your pet because of all the regulations and stuff. PR band all pitbulls and its illegal to have pitbulls in house holds or the streets. I dont know if you heard about a sadly and cruel news last year. The government sent the shelters to toss all animals from a bridge down a huge river and I think the animals were even alive. It was true and horrible and I am so ashamed that my island does not have animal rights and ptotect them as the US does. If you really like pets and visit PR, be prepared to see a few cats and dogs smashed in the middle of the road and left there for days. Its very sad. |

I don't know about houses/yards, but there are stray dogs everywhere - at least out in the country/parks. |
