Definitely not. They're metal, or most specifically metalcore.
And it's nothing like Batcave, if that's what your friend is referring to. Batcave is a genre of music named so because of a nightclub that was formed in London in 1982 and the music style is goth with a bit of glam mixed in. Bands of this genre are bands like Specimen, Alien Sex Fiend, Sex Gang Children, and Virgin Prunes. And if you listen to those, they're absolutely nothing like Avenged Sevenfold. Two totally different genres of music.
