Yes indulging in homosexual acts is illegal and carries jail time if caught,that adds up to a death sentence almost as homosexuals are not wanted here.

It is called Buggery and in the law books in Jamaica, it is considered illegal, even though there are quite a few practicing homosexuals there. There are many gay tourists who visit Jamaica and they were just fine. I think the problem is that Jamaicans still don't accept seeing openly gay people, particularly gay men engaging in public display of affection.

As inherited from the British constitution many many moons ago. (Britain only made homosexuality legal around 1967 so according what I just read.) As such it is illegal not just in Jamaica but almost every country still in the Caribbean.....

The Caribbean islands have never gotten around to changing it, and there's never a huge movement in the Caribbean for changing anything that has to do with the constitution unless it is to make something more in line with society. The fact of the matter is homosexuality is not inline with most of the Caribbean societies at this point.....

NO it is not illegal in Jamaica. It is a homophobic society. There are also gay people there like any other country's society. so there is nothing to be afriad of as long as you DONT show actions or admit in any way that you are gay. Jamaica is a FUN place to be! and you can have fun too. all the best !

Also, when you travel to Jamaica they say that if your are homosexual that you should keep that on the low. It's frowned upon and your vacation will be alot better if you're not worried about Hate Crimes and such.. .But who says you wouldn't have to deal with this anywhere else you go?

Okay, first of all, homosexuality refers to one's sexual orientation, and is a state of mind. A person cannot be criminally liable for their thoughts or mental state alone, so no government can outlaw homosexuality.

However, section 76 of the Offences Against the Person Act of Jamaica says: "Whosoever shall be convicted of the abominable crime of BUGGERY, committed either with mankind or with any animal, shall be liable to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for a term not exceeding ten years."

So what in fact is outlawed in Jamaica is committing the act of buggery, which most associate with homosexuality (though a man and woman can commit buggery).

Therefore, the more informed answer is that NO, homosexuality is not outlawed in Jamaica per se; but in fact the law shows its disapproval for homosexuality by proscribing the commission of homosexual sex acts (buggery). So basically homosexuality can be seen as illegal in Jamaica.

Aside from the legal ramifications of being found committing buggery, homosexuality is STRONGLY DISAPPROVED of in Jamaican society.

yes I think it is, this is very frowned upon, but some people are ok with it, and won't judge a person by their sexuality.
