From experience, take dollars. The exchange rate is higher in America you'll get ripped off. Take your dollars there and get more for your money. |

USD, they think in USD, Pesos are good for small expenses (caution; they use $ symbol for both) |

You should bring Dollars (I can't imagine where you would get the Pesos outside the Dominican, anyway).
However, after getting here, change your dollars into pesos and spend in pesos. If you spend in dollars, you will get a crappy exchange rate. The current fair rate is 32 x 1. If you go to a restaurant and want to pay with dollars, they'll take your dollars at rate of 28 or 30 x 1 at best. So, it's best to change your dollars into pesos and make all purchases in pesos. The only payments you should make in dollars are your travel costs (ie. hotel, air travel, etc.). But even ground transportation should be paid in pesos.
Oh, one last thing, make your exchanges in a bank or at western union, never at the airport or at the hotel, or else you'll get killed in the exchange rate. |

USD but beware of the rate of exchange you are getting!
Check it our before you go as you can easily be ripped off. |

It's best to have a little bit of both. I took a wad of pesos and a wad of dollars and I never found myself in a difficult purchasing situiation (and both came in handy) |

dollars.... you can bring them home with you :-)
an ATM card can only withdraw a relatively small amount of money, the banks have shotgun armed guards.
if you are staying in a complex which is "all in", you will stlll need to tip nearly everyone... I found it rude as if you don't tip the barman, you could be waiting a long time for your next round.
all excursions are happier to accept dollars, go to ocean world and paradise island (or that big heap of sand in the middle of no where)
have a great time, just be careful of people (esp girls) who want to be your friend!!!

Take dollars, because the currency is always changing. Right now one dollar is 32 pesos.
Good luck |

Dollars is the right answer. You can get pesos at the Airport but get only what you need. Western Union gives the best exchange rate. Don't trust anyone or believe anything they say. I lived there. |

Take dollars and change them down there as needed. Make sure to shop for the best exchange rate as it can vary considerably. |
