Is it ok to wear my Che Guvera t-shirt in Havana as a western tourist?

Additional Details
enjoying the dirversity of answers we are getting here. Was hoping for an answer from someone Cuban if possible.

I'm not a) an american college kid or b) ignorant of Cuban history, pre- or post- revolution.

Cubans will not mind at all. You see his picture everywhere in Cuba...on books, t-shirts, posters, on the sides of buildings, everywhere.
As one person mentioned, you'll see these t-shirts at all the resorts for non-Cubans to buy...so you can wear your shirt without offending anyone.
It's not anti-Cuban.

**Edit: if anyone is going to call people ignorant, then one needs to to be sure that their answers and use of phrases are not said 'ignorantly'...LaFluer, you speak ignorantly and do not know what you say...and by the way, the phrase is 'all intents and purposes', not 'intensive purposes'....

I communicate with friends from Cuba via email all the time. They have computers in their homes, they have cell phones, they have mail delivered to them, and they have international courier services.

A simple question was asked....so for 'all intents and purposes' it really only requires a simple, well-informed answer.

If brad_in_quebec wants an answer from someone living in Cuba, he'll get the answer...all I have to do is star the question and he'll get it answered.

I disagree with LaFluer, I email people from Cuba all the time and text message. Not every Cuban has a computer agreed but it's not like they are banned from the internet. As far as the che t-chirt goes, of course you can everyone loves him there. They are very passonate when they talk about che or even castro, they are very proud of their history

lory
I have just returned from Cuba (I went to Guardalavaca) and they sell Che Guevara T-Shirts everywhere even in the resorts. If they are selling them to tourists it must be okay for tourists to wear them!

lina
yes it's okay. they sell his image there on t shirts and hats.

The ignorance in this world is incredible. What a slap in the face to the Cubans who are fighting oppression to have another idiot visit with a murderous rebel on their shirt. Let me be the first to say...You suck.

From what I saw, tourists wear those shirts more than Cubans. Thing is, he is a national hero there, and in fact, in a lot of Central American countries. Go ahead and wear it. If you're trying to look less like a tourist tho....than not so much.

Richard K
Sure, Cubans absolutly revere Che. Whenever you mention his name they appreciate it, so I'm sure they would be pleased to see a tourist wearing the shirt.

popeyethesadist
yea, that way they'll know you are a yankee college kid.

You are ignorant of present day Cuba if you really thought you were going to get an answer from a Cuban in Cuba.

Very few Cubans can afford, or are allowed to, own computers and even less are allowed to have unrestricted access to the internet.

There are "internet" cafe's in Cuba, but for all intensive purposes they are limited to email and are closely monitored by the Cuban government.

As to an answer to your question. Sure, wear your Che shirt. Even better, buy one there an help support Castro with your foreign funds.

The real irony is that Che would be appalled and sickened by the comercialization of his image.

that will be something you shouldnt do. Che Guevara was like Hitler, he killed thousands in the name of communism. Would u wear a hitler tshirt ?
