There are several cruise lines out there that cater to older cruisers, if that is something that interests you.

But either way, it can be very safe and it can also be not so safe. As with any vacation, you need to be especially careful when you are a lone. Get an international calling card and give your cruising itenirary to your friends at home. Tell them you will call home when arrive at the port so they know you are safe. That way they can keep an eye on you and know if they need to be concerned.

When you are on the boat there are two very important things to remember. First: limit any alcohol you drink. If you want to have some, only drink one and then wait a while for your next. Drinking and cruises just aren't a good combination, especially if you are on your own. Second: stay away from areas where there aren't many people around. Sometimes there are decks that aren't real busy, and especially at night, stay with groups of people so you can get help if anything were to happen.

Other than that, just think like you would at any major city, anymore just about any city, while alone. For example, cruising is the perfect opportunity to meet new people. And most of the people will be really friendly, well traveled, etc. So it will be fun to spark a conversation which later may become a friendship. I have met many of my current friends on cruises, you can really get to know people. Just remember that you just met these people, don't forget and think it is one of your lifelong friends and let your guard go. For every 1000 people that are truly friendly and there to meet people, there are probably a few with alterior motives. Just be cautious if you don't trust something, etc.

Cruising is wonderful, I absolutely love it. You just have to be careful and use common sense. I've been on countless cruises and I've never once been in a situation where I was uncomfortable or didn't feel safe.

Have fun!

Yes, I send clients like you on cruises often. A cruise is one of the safest and most enjoyable trips a single person can take. You would most likely be more confortable departing an American port, such as maybe Tampa or Port Canaveral. There are many options, depending on what you are interested in. Call a reputable travel agent. They can help you with this - there are actually several cruises every year for single folks by age group.

Crusies are one of the safest holidays you could take. I can assure you that safety on the ship is not a problem. When you go ashore in the islands use common sense. The caribbean islands are part of the real world. There are good guys and bad guys there too.
I don't know how gregarious you are so you may be happier traveling with a friend or you may be able to find a friend :) on board. It is always more fun with a playmate.

IMHO, speaking from experience, cruising is the best way to travel if you are single and traveling alone. The biggest drawback being if you wish a cabin to yourself, you will have to pay a "single supplement".

Otherwise, it is extremely easy to meet people. You will be assigned a specific table for dinner so will have automatic pairing right there. Also there are the tours, ship board activities etc.

I would say yes, it's quite safe. Choose a cruiseline that caters to a more mature crowd and you should have a great time. I would just suggest any excursions you do, should be thru the cruiseline and not an independent operator that you happen to find at one of the ports of call. Use common sense and everything should be smooth sailing (literally). I've done cruises alone before and never had any problems and always met a lot of other single folks (that were in a similar situation as me). Have a great time and don't let being alone stop you from enjoying yourself.

my former boss went on a cruise alone and was very happy. you don't need anyone to enjoy it with. you are your own best friend. and besides if someone goes with you you will spend all your time with them and not enjoying the company of others.. make new friends...when you get on board ask the purser to help you figure out things to do for singles....or better yet take a singles cruise........have fun...

SolMan
Sure it's safe. Why don't you try a senior cruise or one sponsored by a church or singles group. I hope you make freinds and have a very good time.

Absolutely...there are even senior and singles cruises...just ask a travel agent. You'll have a blast and maybe even make some new friends while you relax!
