Is it safe to go off the resort in Punta Cana Dominican Republic? |
I asked where the best place to stay in D.R. would be and someone gave me this website http://www.dominicanrepublicjourney.com/cities/punta-cana/punta-cana-nightlife
People have already stated that you should NOT leave the resorts in Punta Cana.
There are several clubs listed on this site so if you shouldn't leave the resort why do they give you all the clubs names and locations on the website?
Is it bad if we went to these clubs? |

Don't believe everything people (ignorants) telling you about the safety in the Dominican Republic. Why do they say or tell this kind of nonsense? Because of jealousy or just being to stupid!
The Dominican Republic and specially the tourist areas are very safe, more safe than the majority of the American cities!!! So don't let you influence by the crap some people tell you.
Enjoy your stay and discover this nice country!

This isnt true the Dominican Republic is a very safe place. Just use common sense and you'll be fine. What I mean by this is:
- At home u probably wouldn't walk home from a club at 2am. Don't do this here.
- At home you wouldn't walk around with you're purse hanging out you're bag. Don't do this here.
(Obviously you will do this though)
You can leave the resorts + thats the truth. The resorts probably say this to earn more money for themselves as they know that like another answerer said they can whack another $10 only you're bus ride when it only costs 50 cents on public transport.
Don't worry - The dominican people are the happiest + friendliest people I have ever met in my life. Yes they will hassle you if you walk by their shops but a firm no thankyou will do the trick. You'll be fine.
I went to clubs a few times in Puerto Plata and was fine. I'm 19, white and female so if anyone was going to get attacked it would have been me. I went alone with another girl of my age. I stood out alot but everything went fine and I had a great night. If anything they treated me better + tried to make my trip more enjoyable.
Good luck and have a fabulous time. I wish it was me going back sooner rather than later. |

Dominican Republic and the tourist areas are safe. Just use your common sense and you will be fine. The bartenders, servers and another employees in the hotels can help you answering questions about what to do and how to do it, the prices, etc.
Thousands of tourists coming to D.R. every year cannot be a mistake.

All the All Inclusives say you will be mugged the minute you leave the compound. I don't know about Punta Cana but there are a ton of restaurants, bars and clubs on the North Coast and you can walk around downtown Sosua at 2am without worrying about getting mugged.
I lived in the DR for about a year and there were some muggings of tourists but these almost always happen to people who are walking alone in remote areas of town during the day. At night Dominican men have to have a job in tourist areas or they will be picked up by the cops. You will see dozens of Dominican on motorbikes, but they make good money.
Most resorts will have a shuttle to go to the clubs and they will tack another $10 on your bill for a 50 cent ride. Also the resorts will often cheat you on exchange rates. They don't want you to see how cheap the souvineirs are outside the resort. You can also usually get a nicer hotel for half of what an all-inclusive is.
The only thing to worry about is female pick-pockets in clubs and they pretty much only target drunk men. If you go out a small fanny pack is good, but wear it forward.
I lived in Sosua and well over a 1000 expatriots live there. There were a scant few beggars. I knew of two legit ones and one fake one. The fake one was an old woman and little girl asking for money but the locals said she lived in a two-story house with a swimming pool. The others were a guy with deformed feet who was raising money for operations and a diabetic who had a foot cut off. |

punta cana is the best resort in dr. i heard it is absolutely beautiful there. when you leave the resort its like a third world country and ppl will beg you for money same thing as going to mexico. if you go to the clubs make sure you go in a group and stay in the group and you will be fine. |
