Is as Safe as a any Tourist area in any Mayor city...is like staying past 6pm in South Beach...just stay in Open view areas ..Tourist areas are Patrol by the Tourist Police in Puerto Rico...
Don't go near the public Housing name Llorens Torres (near Ocean Park/the last Trolley beach)...
You will be fine...

Best advice is to be careful as you would in any big city. Condado is one of the safest areas to be as a tourist. Lots of police patrol at night. You will see homeless people here and there, but also lots of nice cars and upscale shops. Do not go further than the beach by Condado Plaza at night (i.e. don't cross the bridge) after dark. Beyond the bridge might be dicey. You can pretty much go up Ashford Avenue all the way to the Radisson on foot (about 2 miles up from Condado Plaza) without much concern. Tons of pedestrian traffic - runners, walkers, tourists, especially on the weekend. The side streets are what you would want to avoid after dark. Not quite as safe. If you do feel nervous, take a cab to and from the hotels. It's zone pricing, so you will pay a lot for a short ride! |

Would I feel safe at Time Square in New York City after six? Absolutely! The answer to your question is, Yes! Old San Juan, El Condado, and Isla Verde are heavily patrol and safe. Ashford Ave is in El Condado area. You will see upscale fashion stores in that area also. |

Most tourists in Puerto Rico are mugged in San Juan. Hmmmm, could it be because that's where most tourists are? My advice, don't live in fear.
Not living in fear has gotten me almost attacked by the stray dogs in Ponce. Then again, at least I get out and walk around, unlike my friend. |

Dude, whoever told you that its crazy, it is safe to go out at dark, as a matter of fact, the condado area and old san juan have a lot of places that are open until late at night so tourist can have Fun going places. I can assure you that nothing its going to happen to you, only that if you go out past dark you'll have so much fun that you wont be wanting to go back to the hotel your staying at. |
