Santo Domingo still is a safe place to travel alone. But as a tourist you have to be very smart specially with taxi drivers. They would make you pay more for the ride, so I recommend you, when you call a taxi to ask first how much is the ride. If you call Apolo Taxi, a very famous taxi company, ask first on the phone how much is the ride, it is safer. (809-537-0000).
Night life in Santo Domingo is really great, a lot of fun. You will find a loooot of restaurants with all kind of foods and a great environment. Enjoy your trip. |

Look, you can't be stupid and let yourself get robbed or anything... It is safe I suppose... just like any other place you go you might have to be a little cautious, but once there you're going to have a nice time =)... Pretty much it ^^

there's crime and violence everywhere in latin america and all over the world, traveling alone to the DR is fine, just take taxis, and if shopping do it at malls, and safe places, we have many malls like: acropolis center, bella vista mall, malecon center, megacentro, diamond mall, also you can go to El conde St. at the colonial zone, excelent for souvenir shopping. you will have a lot of fun.
if coming here alone i take it you must know someone here, so tell that person to take you out shopping, and to the colonial zone, to the beach and all. |
