Question Queen ?
Is it true that if I move to Puerto Rico from the US, I can still keep my SSI & Social Security benefits?
Actually these answers are all Wrong. NO you CANT keep you SSI if you live in Puerto Rico!!! (Although you can recieve Social security.)
Although Puerto ricans are US citizens, the US treats them as 2nd class citizens. I know this b/c my father in law is from PR, he lives in the US 6 months out of the yr(& keeps the address as his permanent residence) just to get SSI, he lives in PR half of the yr but doesnt report it.
If you do Not believe me look what the official SSI website says:
"If you move to Puerto Rico, you are considered to be outside the United States for SSI purposes only. People who live in Puerto Rico cannot get SSI."

Social Security Benefits Yes...
SSI is NOT available in Puerto Rico Legally...of course some people live their check in a Direct Deposit account and withdraw their Money in PR....
But then when a Review or an Audit they eventually get caught....

Probably, because the US owns Puerto Rico. But, Puerto Rico has voted to stay as Country vs. becoming the 51 st State. So, I would think that SSI and benefits would still apply.
I hope that this helps.

no you won't be able to keep your benefits. this is true for most US citizens who decide to move from the US. you'll have to travel back and forth to the US for 6mos each yr.

Yes and you can even move to a foreign country like the Dominican Republic get direct deposit into a US checking account and just cash or deposit the money when it comes in!
