Puerto Rico is beautiful and friendly..but definitely not safe anymore..More carjackings every weekend than any other place in the US. Drugs are everywhere, people live with metal bars on their windows..Very high crime..However...a good place to learn Spanish...wonderful people...great food and nightlife..but if I can t go to a deserted beach without fear, it takes some of the "paradise"away. Of course, the cities have higher crime, but the countryside also..Its a shame..because PR USED to be paradise. I lived their for 10 years..many years ago, before corruption took over...

well i think its pretty safe my dad is from Puerto Rico and i have vacationed there. I had a great time. San Juan i believe is a bit too crowded if u want a real feel for Puerto Rico you should stay somewhere else. Although in San Juan it feels like ur in the us. there is mcdonalds and burger king.

It is. I've lived here all my life.

PROS: It's summer all year long, killer beaches on all four coasts, English is common, US dollar is the official currency, just a short flight to the US east coast with many nonstop flights to most of the US major cities.

CONS: Moon-like craters in some roads, some things are more expensive than in the US (although some others like insurance for example, are cheaper) and crime can be higher than in most places in the US, although not any worse than in the major American cities.

Oh, and another very important PRO: women here are astoundingly GORGEOUS. I have travelled all over the world, and Puerto Rico is among very few places in which most women are very, but very beautiful. Just take a seat in the Island's main mall, Plaza las Américas, and you'll know what I mean.

Never been or lived there but my family is from there. Great place to visit. Great place to live depending where you are on the island. San Juan is very commercial. Everything is in English and Spanish, they have McDonald's there... very Americanized. If you go to the more country parts they are safe as well. I would say it's more of a vacation spot if you haven't lived outside the United States. Visit first and see what you think. My family goes back every so often and always has a great time. :o)

I never has been there but i hear from a lot of people that is really good place to leave. My teacher is from there and she show me pictures-it's really nice and she tell me a lot-it is safe and clean and the people are really good.

Safe place to visit. If you have a good job with a great salary here, unless you are a transfer do not expect a great salary unless you get into a really big company. Too much violence in some areas of the Island. Other than that the island is lovely, most of the people are lovely and it has so much to do...you can go around the island in one day.

Boricua!

You would love to be in P.R. I go there every summer and it is so beautiful and it is awesome tropical weather. The beaches are very nice and you have to go up into the mountains. The are the most wonderful thing to see out there. Go to San Juan if you want to do lots of touring and eat great food. It is a very pretty place to live. It is nice if you also no spanish, that is their main language and if you like hurricanes during hurricane season. If I were you go at the beginning of summer. It is the best time!!! Enjoy!!! I wish I was there right now!!! I am Puerto Rican. I know that place by the tip of my hand!!!!
