Is the Dominican Republic part of the U.S.? |
We were going to take a trip to Puerto Rico because i knew it was part of the U.S. but i was checking our itinerary and it says we are going to Punta Cana which is in The Domincan Republic. So I was just wondering if that is still part of the United States, and if i will need a pasport to get there. |

Puerto Rico is not part of the US, It is a self governing country with an association with the US as a commonwealth (Estado libre asociado).
Dominican Republic is also not part and does not have any political association with the US. |

No its not part of the US. Due to the delay on behalf of the govt, to travel to the caribean you dont need a passport, but you do need a receipt showing that you tried to get it. I highly suggest you go get one now, and make sure you pay the extra $60 to have it expedited. My boyfriend and I are going to Costa Rica in August and we were lucky enough to get our passports in 3 weeks, but that was only because we paid the extra cash. Go to the continental airline website and it will give you helpful info. |

No it is not part of the US. You can go to the US state department website for information about the US and other countries passport requirements. There has been some leniancy this summer due to the inability of the state department in processing the flood of passport requests. |
