Depends on which direction you are facing and which island you are standing on. Some of them form the north eastern barrier to the Caribbean, so if you are on a northeastern island, facing northeast, then you are in the Atlantic. The effect can be quite dramatic if you are on the northern or southern tip of one of these islands as there will be huge rollers coming off the Atlantic and the west (Caribbean) side will be as calm as a lake in the lee of the island.
